On the point not to program your home address into your navigation, I'll add that you should disable or clear breadcrumbs if you have that feature and are not actively using it. That could also point a thief to your home location.

The mirror positioning is a good one I was taught years ago by a deputy sheriff. It helps minimize your blind spots and gives better situational awareness.
