All the years living here in NY and meeting fellow 2A people, it shocks me how many are ignorant of NY law when it comes to self defense. Feelings take over and will get people in a lot of trouble. This isn't Florida or Texas. lol

Yea Article 35 is VERY VERY clear on use of deadly force and when you can use it.... if this happened in NY this dude would be 99% in the same situation he is currently

Doubt. This is legit one of the clearest cases (even if this happened in NY) of justified use of deadly force in defense of self and others..

Exactly. That is why NY has the most unfair court system. They play too much into the "feelings".

We could have an intruder come in your house, lay hurtful hands on you and you shoot them or whatever (doesn't even need to be shot), guaranteed are you will look like the bad guy to the public. No matter what the outcome is.

Down south, like Texas, for example, a friend had an issue with someone robbing his property. He got a wireless deer cam, and caught the guy. It was the guy down the street. The police reviewed the footage, and immediately went to the offender's house and charged them along with allowing my friend to get a majority of his property back that the robber stole right on the robber's premise! Try that in NY... Here in NY the police would take it down while the robber sold it all in pawn shops and then you'd be left with nothing. Then the robber would go to court, and then sentenced for 3 days in jail and then be let free to start all over again. Oh, and the robber down in Texas is still in jail as I write this and that was 3 years ago.

In TX you could just hide and wait for him to try it at night then shoot him.

I mean this is a NY forum thatvaddresses NY gun issues not Indiana. Using your weapon in the manner of which that great young man did isn't going to fly here.

Just look at the Bodega worker charged for defending himself with a knife.

There’s a difference and article 35 absolutely says you can defend yourself or others. The public outcry would be enormous if they charged some one who saved people like that. I doubt there is a chance in hell you’d be charged in that mall shooting scenario.
Now 50feet away a guy charging you and you alone with a knofe might be different.

My 2 cents would be to shoot both back to back to see if there is a notable difference. I did that with 147 +p and 115 hard ball, they printed the same but the +p had more recoil. I did not think I needed to practice with the +p stuff.

I own a home on Staten Island, as well as upstate and in Jersey. I happened to be in my Staten Island home a few days after the Bodega owner was charged by the Manhatten DA. I was watching NY 1 news, and a Staten Island DA and Staten Island councilmen were on the NY 1 news having an impromptu live broadcast in Eltingville, a south shore island neighborhood, not only publicly denouncing their fellow Manhatten DA, but said specifically that in "our borough" this kind of "unjustice" wouldnever happen.

The Staten Island DA commented further saying, "in our borough we applaud those that stand up and defend themselves and fight for those that excersize their right to do it". They even called out the Manhatten DA to drop the charges, which we know eventually did happen.

Now, dont get me wrong, Staten Island is the ONLY Republcan borough out of the 5 NYC boroughs, but it shows that even in NYC the DA in one of the next boroughs over was ripping the Manhatten DA apart for charging that Bodega owner. Dare i say it, i feel also that if a simiar shooting like happened in Indianapolis, happened in the Staten Island mall, he would have been treated as a hero and not charged too.

It does come down to exact location, but as a whole, and even in NY shitty, if the consensus as a whole is it was "self defense", you should be good. Just try not to ONLY shoot the bad guy in his back, lol.

Train with and test thoroughly your carry ammo.
For volume training find a round or create a clone with the same weight, speed and trajectory than your carry ammo.
Get very comfortable and good with it.
That is all I can advice.
