Most preppers seem to have some oddly specific view about what a collapse looks like.
I agree with everything he said except sharing your food with like-minded people. Because when hunting and foraging run out, they'll come for your food. You can meet up with like-minded people, share tools, share your time defending the neighborhood, etc, but never your food. Never tell them what food you have. Act just as hungry as them when you go out together hunting, fishing, and foraging.
I can see relatives showing up if things go south.... Not many do prep.. but they do have a stake in the land that I reside on .. This is through a land trust set up by my parents. Unless one really hates their family There is a good chance any of us just has to face that possibility . What happens if your brother and sister in-law die and their 3 young children show up at your doorstep. ... Running nose and empty stomachs ... Shut the door in their face . As bad as things got in the depression families stuck together and survived. .
Now my great grandmother came from a poor family in the Ukraine . Around 8 she got farmed out to a rich Jewish family. Worked all day Polishing silver spoons and washing cloths and windows ... All for room and board. From the sound of it the family dog ate better than she did. .... Case in point one needs to prepare for this also. More folks will be at your household than one thinks ... ....
The one thing that I have noticed that all these prepper sites . No one ever talks about raising and storing potato's. Beans , corm,rice... Never potato's... Of course most folks do not have access to a root cellar .
AT 26:30 shows one in Russia.
If one has time this is a real life survivalist story. A book was written about them that I bought. a few years ago..
In 1936, a family of Russian Old Believers journeyed deep into Siberia's vast taiga to escape persecution and protect their way of life. The Lykovs eventually settled in the Sayan Mountains, 160 miles from any other sign of civilization. In 1944, Agafia Lykov was born into this wilderness. Today, she is the last surviving Lykov, remaining steadfast in her seclusion. In this episode of Far Out, the VICE crew travels to Agafia to learn about her taiga lifestyle and the encroaching influence of the outside world.
