Winchester small pistol primers

I am reloading mostly 223

I have used rws and cci pistol for rifle before so I don't see why winchester would not work unless you are to load hot.
I believe winchester are .017 cup and should be good quality, are they the silver cups?
some BR shooters have used PC primers for small calibers and score competition.
It all depends on the application, pockets, gun(protrusion)
A lot of people said no but have never really done it. Many times the same who say you cannot reload steel or aluminum
cases. Not the standard practice but perfectly fine ike for example in scarcity periods or emergency or just for burners
or hunting. maybe the same 'experts' who say the cci400 are no recommended for 223.

I went downstairs and checked on the winchester and I would not use those for the rifle.
Or maybe I would do a test in case of an emergency but they do not seem to be as hard as the cci silver ones for pistol.
Anyway I am glad you found the rifle ones. Order more and keep them in a hermetic safe and dry storage.

Yea the winchesters are softest of primers for sure
I wouldnt use the WSPP to load the 223, a buddy of mine swapped 3k cci 41s for my pistol primers this weekend so im good to go now

I've used Winchester in both pistol and rifle with no problems. What is the perceived problem with WW? Also federal pistol primers are extremely soft as well. I actually loaded up a whole lot of those last night. They don't give me any problems either.

I have never had any issues personally since i just use my WSPP to load 9mm & i use cci 400 or 41 for 223, but i see a lot of people saying guns with hard primer strikes or for rifle the floating firing pin in an AR can create a slam fire or pierce the softer cups

I wonder how much of the stuff with soft primers is internetz regurgitation. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen but in approaching 20 years of shooting I've never seen a pierced primer. All the stuff I see online is from people messing with their guns and doing stuff they're not supposed to do. Like messing with bolt faces and firing pins/springs. I rarely ever comment on stuff that I don't have experience with first hand as I know the web is full of endless amounts of nonsense. There are people that still say you shouldn't dry fire guns and 9mm is better than 45.

i had a box of Magtech 124gr 9mm that i got 9 pierced primers for a 50 round box

Boxes with the same batch # i tried on another gun and had 1 out of 200

Spoke to magtech and they sent me new ammo

That's nuts! I wonder if they were using primers made out of aluminum foil. It sucks when you can't even trust factory ammo. That's another benefit of reloading though. Knowing exactly what's going into your ammo. I try to reload for every single gun I have if possible and I certainly trust my ammo more than factory. I own some guns that have never used factory ammo.

I'd be down to trade CCI Small Pistol Primers for Large Pistol Primers (regular or magnum, most makes), if anyone is interested.

Also have plenty of CCI #11 Magnum percussion caps that I'd trade for Large Pistol Primers.
