This is the real problem, especially with violent felons that the government likes to turn loose eventually no matter how long the prison sentence or whether the sentence is life without parole. The kind of person who is not deterred by a prison sentence of years is not going to go into society an upstanding person because they served time at hard labor. I don't think you understand human nature.
Perhaps if we had an effective death penalty more would be deterred with fewer locked up. That's not the death penalty that exists in the United States, which is extremely rare, arbitrary, and delayed.
Violent felonies ought to be executed. Not only are they a danger to the public when they are eventually released, they are a massive drag on our financial resources and time. Further they are a danger even within prisons with regards to other inmates and prison staff.
By violent felony I mean murder, attempted murder (which would IMO include anyone that attacks another person with a weapon other than their fists; guns, knives, chainsaws, cars, etc,), kidnapping, enslavement or trafficking of other people, torture, proven rape (victim must come forward immediately, treated as a kidnapping and not just a sexual assault once PROVEN), acts of violent terrorism (defined by law and not bullshit red flags, watch lists, woke accussations, or feelings), treason, child rape and/or trafficking or other violent or abhorrent treatment of children (pedos ought to be executed twice just to be sure), extreme sexual deviancy, and so on.
All with Due Process, Equal Protection, Right to a Jury Trial, 4th Amendment protections, and all other applicable Rights, in accordance with our Federal and State constitutions, and through fair and just courts.
It is a proven maxim that violent criminals who are justly and properly executed for their crimes almost never go on to commit more of them!
The problem with all of that is the fact that our governments, from the local to the State and Federal, are corrupt to the bone. The genie is out of the bottle, and a high rate of crime, recidivism. and organized violence and mayhem is a feature, not a bug, to our corrupt political masters and their henchmen.
Further, crime is used as an excuse and as a club to bludgeon the law abiding citizen with ever increasing and burdensome restrictions on their guaranteed fundamental Rights, without putting the slightest dent in crime, violent or otherwise,
There are solutions, but before any of those can be implemented, the problems need to be addressed broadly and as immediately as possible. With the Leviathan that Federal and State governments have become, the terrible pro-crime laws that have been passed at all levels over many decades, the unjust use of the panoply laws available to a corrupt system to use against innocent law abiding Americans (low hanging fruit) while ignoring real crime, and the corrupt political system that is run more by bureaucrats than elected officials (and the few "representatives" who actually care about this country), there are really no options to stem the tide because the government itself is lawless and engaged in lawless behavior on a regular basis.
This is what a godless, feckless, wicked, and corrupt society looks like. Welcome to the new normal.
