Problem Renewing my NY permit

The issue is on my permit it states it expires at the end of October 2023

but I just received recertification from NYSP until 8/2026

I assumed that meant my permit was good until 8/2027

But now I am not so sure?

Recertification and renewal are 2 different things. That said, NY permits (excepting a couple of downstate counties...I believe) do not have an "expiration date" on them. Apologies for not reading back through the thread, but where was yours issued?

Clesrly my mistake then as I thought recertification was the same as renewal

And to save you the hassle of reading through, I cannot renew at Oneida county due to some crazy form they have implemented that now 4 different departments on FL have simply refused to sign and I can understand why

the form is on page 1 I believe

So I am back to square one unfortunately

Meh, just carry dirty. The bad guys do it all the time, worst they get is an appearance ticket if they get nabbed.

So further update

I contacted NYSP for some clarity and here it is;

NYS Handgun licenses issued by upstate NY Counties (except NYC, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester) do not expire. Those licenses are good until revoked. NYS law requires that you recertify your handgun license every three years (five years for premise or employment licenses). If you fail to recertify, your license could be revoked by the licensing office that issued it. Currently, a revocation for failing to recertify would have to be initiated by the County Licensing Officer (typically a County Court Judge).

So on the basis that I did recertify and that is valid until 8/2026, it looks as though I should be good to go

Like I said....recertification is not renewal; permits don't "expire". Fuck the NYSP and Hochul on the "recertification"......they can go suck dick.
