This misconception again. "Assault Rifle" and "Assault Weapon" are two separate terms. The former is an informal yet discretely codified military term for any rifle or carbine that is capable of select fire, feeds from a detachable box magazine and is chambered in an intermediate rifle cartridge. The latter is an amorphous political term that has no set definition beyond whatever is convenient at the moment. One term is descriptive, the other is not.
The context in which this report uses the term "Assault Rifle" is proper and effective in demonstrating the difference between an actual assault rifle and a semiautomatic rifle.
