State Senator Kevin Parker and Assemblyman Eddie Gibbs introduced the legislation, which would allow inmates to collect around $400 each month over six months once they leave prison, and have asked that 25 million dollars be set aside for the initiative.
According to Fox 5 New York, currently, there are no limitations on how or where the money can be spent.

Thats fine if they make them work while they are in prison to earn it. Then when they are released it can be like unemployment until they find another job stamping license plates.

I'm not opposed to this, but on the grounds:

1) They work for it.
2) It is conditional. If they fail to stay out of prison for at least two years after, they will be on the hook to pay back every penny through labor or garnished wages in the future. Lets reward good behavior only.

If you stay out of prison for two years, we will give you $2600, tax free. Done. In fact, up it. $5000 if you stay out of prison for at least two years, if you're a first time offender and you manage to hold a productive job for at least 12 months during that period of time (24 months.)

Why should i pay someone else to behave. Had they NOT fukked up, they wouldn`t have been locked up to begin with! This is just another poor excuse for the way the government works... spend money foolishly, then rely on the tax payers to bail their worthless azzes out!

I’m all for things that make good financial sense and incentivizing people to stay out of prison and be productive members does this. However I don’t think $2,600 will do much of anything for anyone especially a successful criminal. Drug dealers make this in a day.

Thats why i`m on the "NO LIST". This fixes nothing. It will damn sure make your taxes go up. That money should be invested in bringing jobs back, instead of going to losers who will be back in prison in no time. But they will gladly take the free handout, and still contribute to criminal activities, and getting paid for it.

Why should i pay someone else to behave. Had they NOT fukked up, they wouldn`t have been locked up to begin with! This is just another poor excuse for the way the government works... spend money foolishly, then rely on the tax payers to bail their worthless azzes out!

Personally, I don't want to give a penny to these people either. I get it. We don't owe them anything, seeing as they're the offender here.

But, you know what I value more than not giving them money? Keeping society safe and productive. Bringing in more taxes through productive people than having to waste money chasing them down and locking them up. I want a certain result, and I'm not above manipulation to get that result.

If we can tactfully achieve that result with the right incentive, then so be it. The goal is to make your life easier, and sometimes that means making some sacrifices to get where you want to be.

That's my take.

when i was in the Navy and fucked up and ended up in the Restriction Barracks for a few weeks or a month ..

yeah i got sent there 2 times for stupid shit ... it was just like going to jail ..

my pay was restricted to 1/2 pay .. lose of rank ..

and had to go pick up trash or do some other service work on the base during that time ..

without getting that other 1/2 of paycheck back when i got out ..

Sen Parker can start a GoFundMe and see if enough of the public is willing to sign on to his idea... but not a single penny from our tax money.

Instead make jail/prison undesirable, bring back the death penalty, bring back the work programs. End the war on drugs or actually fight it.

Mandatory work release program, as part of sentencing, to fill all of the jobs that Hochul says are unfilled. Mandatory labor while incarcerated to fund the prison ops. Go to prison? I don't even understand what point you're trying to make. Because to me it just sounds like you're making an ad hominem and we're not looking at how to find a practical solution to this problem.
