The governor of the state is a scumbag and it wouldn't matter if this Bill had 100% support in the assembly and the Senate, he would never sign off on it. I also don't like how it excludes New York City. Now we all know that New York City is a crap hole but we do have Patriots Behind Enemy Lines and we can't abandon them. Even if the city is a politically Lost Cause, and it really is, we can't allow this state to continue to make laws that apply in some places of the state and not others unless we cut off the city from the state.

The problem is that New Yorkers in different areas see those "protections" very differently.

Upstate New Yorkers want protection from over-reaching governmental infringement on their unalienable rights.

NYC New Yorkers want "protection" from inanimate objects and see over-reaching government infringement on unalienable rights to be a good thing.

Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh, D-Manhattan, believes the bill is a non-starter though.

"New York City residents would not be safer by allowing gun sales with no background checks in Westchester County, just across the border from the Bronx," he said.

Kavanagh said all New Yorkers are entitled to the same protections.

"Background checks do not work more effectively in New York City than they do Upstate," he said. "Background checks on sales of guns and other provisions of the SAFE Act work everywhere."

Kavanagh also believes the provisions in the SAFE Act are supported by the majority of people in the state.

"The SAFE Act was passed with a vote of more than 70 percent in the Senate and more than 70 percent in the Assembly," he said. "It was not a close vote and it was not driven just by folks in New York City."

Even if both houses pass the upstate repeal the governor would still need to sign it, something Ortt admits isn't a sure thing. He hopes at a minimum the legislation reignites conversation about parts of the bill he believes aren't working.

This is exactly what's wrong with this whole thing. Since when could guns be sold without background checks?
The vote passed IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, so no constituents could even comment on it because us working schmucks were ALL ASLEEP. Fuck you you POS.

Meh, I'll take whatever I can that alleviates the garbage restrictions to move around having no SafeAct to think about what lie I gotta come up with being pulled over. I don't need no "GFY" bravado that would keep us in the shitbag position we already are in.
