Biden Electric Car, Gas Tax Policies Spur Rebuke on Highway Fund | Bloomberg Government
"The bipartisan law (Public Law 117-58) included more than $100 billion to bail out the Highway Trust Fund, and about $125 million to pilot a national miles-traveled fee and more state mileage-tax programs. The Congressional Budget Office said earlier this year that the trust fund will be exhausted by fiscal 2027, even with the transfers from the trust fund."
Anyone thinking that the "mileage tax" will replace the "gasoline tax" is delusional.
Although the mileage tax would apply to both electric and gas powered vehicles, it's a good bet the gas tax will remain.
Thus, another reason for owning EVs, avoiding the gas tax, becomes moot, and EVs will be even more expensive to operate.
