QD Scope Mounts

I have a red dot on my turkey gun, and recently picked up a cylinder choke to use it for deer hunting (one area I hunt if pretty small and a shotgun would be better than a rifle) as well. I'd prefer to either use the rifle sights that came with the gun or maybe add an actual shotgun scope with reticle for deer hunting.

How accurate does a scope stay if you are using the QD mounts to take t off and put it back on?

Well, I don't know about QD mounts, but I took the 3-9x32 off my coyote hunting rig and dropped the old red dot back on it. When I went to check the old method of bore sighting, the dot on paper lined up in the center of the barrel was spot on with the dot. Been about 4 years since that red dot was on top of the rifle. Was still able to hit an 8" target offhand today, so I guess a QD mount would be GTG.

Now to put the actual scope back on for the next time I get out to get some target shooting in.

Return to Zero on QD mounts vary by manufacturer and individual mount. Bobro probably has the best repeatable RtZ but are also quite expensive and somewhat bulky around the latch area. They are fairly light as well. Most other mounts will retain a quick and dirty zero that will likely need to be sharpened up some.

I didn't have QD mounts, just plain mounts on my experiment today. I think maybe for HD or just plinking it's a non issue swapping glass. But for hunting, I'm not sure if I want to try. If I have to zero each time, there's no sense dropping extra money on the QD mounts if what I already have does the same thing. If that makes sense.

Yesterday I tested the adm qd mount I bought for my digital scope. Sighted it in at 100 yards took it off, put it back on and shot the same group. I also have a larue qd mount I had the same results with in the past. Holding zero was never an issue.

Seems it's more getting things back into the same spot is more important than the mount.

I did have a Bobro QD ACOG mount and I did dismount it several times to test it's return to zero and each time the POI was the same.
Other mounts like the Midwest Industries QD mount I have will usually have a small shift, only an amount of consequence to target shooting. For hunting should be fine. That Midwest Mount I have on an AR and during my testing I saw no more than 1" of change @ 100 yards so you'd still be good for that boiler room hit. The Bobro seemed to have zero shift but again they are quite expensive.

I too have a Larue that I like quite a bit.

I was thinking of maybe trying Monstrum. The scopes are great quality for the money, and their basic mounts are very good as well.
