Honestly, yeah i would. The way I read it I feel comfortable doing what i described.
The way the law is written, and by going through an ffl. You could still give your brother the money buy literally purchasing it from him.
Maybe I'm not as cautious as some of you guys are. I know people tend to be much more obedient of the law when they have families and people to care for and such. I don't, so ill happily exploit loopholes and interpret the law literally instead of speculating on what it could be seen as.

Go through an ffl. Like a normal transfer. Plus its an extra layer of protection from the whole straw purchase bs.

Buy a Saiga Sporter. IMO they look better and handle better than a AK with a spur or boar grip. You have to do a bit of easy gunsmithing to make it accept regular ak mags but other than that they are great guns.

Honestly after everything in this thread, I kinda agree with this the most. A compliant ak isn't much fun. Ya can't hold it sideways over your head and spray without dropping it.

Slavic squats are also more difficult with spur grips.
I love mine, I put a nice tritium front site post and a PKM rear sight. My next upgrade will be a nice set of wood furniture.

My only Russian is an sks thats currently out of commission unfortunately. And that thing is a beast of a gun so shooting it like that would be a damn good workout.

It is legal because you are explicitly selling said gun. you're not buying it with the intent to hand it to someone else. If OP gets the gun shipped, to an ffl, from another ffl, legally speaking he has had that gun sold to him because it went through an ffl and he went through a background check.

Holy fuck people. Get it right already. Read the directions on the 4473. They are very clear. It may take a read through or two but it is clear.

Four options.

1. Uncle either sends gun to ffl or chooses one at ffl. Has modifications done to gun (never buying actual gun) and then have the nyer call and buy it.

2. Have uncle explain to ffl what is going on. Have nyer call down, buy gun and have mods done. Ship to ny.

3. Make it an actual GIFT. No monetary exchange between uncle and nyer.

4. BUY IT FROM ME. SUPPORT THE LOCAL SHOPS THAT ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT GETTING THESE KINDS OF THINGS INTO YOU HANDS ......LEGALLY. . you may pay a bit more, but is is legal and is the only way to keep shops like mine is business......without us no mo guns and ammo. (I already wont do $10 private transfers. And am contemplating no more walk in business. ).

On the form you’ve gotta certify that you are not acquiring the firearm for another person. Under your plan, your family member is acquiring it for you: you said so in the post above.

It ends with the sort of absurd result that it may be illegal to do the thing you are contemplating.

Yup. @bruc29 be very careful, as you are basically coming extremely close to admitting to a straw purchase here, in public, on the internet.

@bulletguy I was only asking about options I have I personally thought it would have been legal for my brother to go through the necessary channels of making it legal, but I like to steer on the side of caution and not break any laws so from what I wanted to do won't happen since their are a lot of opinions as to it not being legal and I don't want to be the guinea pig of finding out lol, to everybody else in this thread thank you for all your answers and opinions but I don't think I'm going to go that route since the headache isn't worth it at that point

The issue i have is the incorrect responses you received. That is more troublesome than the original inquirey. The 1st or 2nd response you hot was correct.

Just because it is logical, or “you” think it “ahould be okay” does not mean it is not against the law. Laws seldom make sense.

Follow one of the 4 options above and buy what you like. No problem.

I know, it’s wild, right? Read the case. The guy bought the gun for a family member to get a law enforcement discount. Neither was prohibited. The conviction was upheld. The OP’s family member cannot buy a gun with the intention of it going to another person.

Just have your FFL do the modification.

Actually, gifting it is okay. The problem was there was a paper trail of the family member PAYING the cop for the firearm.

Therein lies the rub.
