It's rarely used in the military. At least in my units it was taught not to be used unless you fell into a suppression role if your automatic rifleman couldn't do it for whatever reason.

Like mentioned above, it highly inaccurate and you actually do more with well placed shots.

Honestly, I haven't seen many M4s in grand central terminal lately -- even after the attack. Maybe it's just a lower possible target, not really sure. Then again, grand central generally has perpetual national guard troops and LEO patrolling all the time, so the coverage might be greater is why. Or perhaps it has to do with the density of people in a given area that having them deployed there is more of a risk then benefit? Who knows.

The one place I regularly see them is outside the NBC morning show, right next to the rock center Nintendo store. At least once a week I see LEO in helmets, carriers, and with M4s. And that's always been the case, well before the attack happened at port authority. I'd say those guys have been doing shows of force there for at least 6 months, if not more.

A friend of mine does that. He constantly posts pictures with the celebrities who are in and out if NBC studies.

Wonder when they are going to identify the train derailment in Washington State as terrorism? Earlier this year ISIS put out guidance in their magazine on how to derail trains with simple homemade devices.

Was reading an article earlier today indicating that ANTIFA had been involved in some kind of train derailment in, I believe it was Nebraska earlier this year. Didn't specifically speculate Washington was tied in...but lead you to consider it.
When it first happened, I was thinking Eco-terrorist tree huggers.....suppose it could be all wrong if NTSB finds operator error.

They were screaming that it was speeding before the dust had even settled, one remark at the very beginning, before the investigation started mentioned there was something on the track. Still screaming that it was speeding and have not read one more word about something on the track. Its hard for me to believe that an engineer would knowingly be doing 80mph in a 30mph zone that he knows is fairly dangerous at half that speed. Also, over head cameras taken within a half hour show the train just over the bridge, if he was doing eighty, how did he stop so fast. the care are right behind it.
No conspiracy, just don't trust the government anymore.

I would think at 80mph the train cars would be all over the place. It is possible that it was an accident. I just think terrorism right off the bat until it is disproven. I guess I am just wired differently than most of the sheep.

I read an article that the line did not have Positive Train Control. The same issue happened in that incident on that curve in the Bronx at Spuyten Duyvil.

What is positive train control and why wasn’t it being used in the Amtrak train crash?

They aren't even trained in them. Notice the backwards red dot and the way he has it slung. He'll never be able to engage with it. It's for show.

Except that particular AimPoint is backwards. His rifle is slung to high in a way that he can't engage with it either. Look at how high it is. His hand can't even reach the trigger. He's even holding it with the wrong hand.

My understanding, knowing MTA engineers who drive that line, is that he was switched between a night and a day shift, without a proper transition period.

MTA also now, afaik, requires that engineers are tested for sleep apnea, to make sure they’re getting rested enough each night with the proper treatment if need be.

Additionally, MTA should’ve been getting money for failsafe systems that would never let this happen. How the system works is, if an engineer does not comply with the speed set by the RTC (rail traffic control), and slow their speed within the max speed allowance, the train will automatically bleed air for the brakes at a certain rate and slow it down. And in the absence of speed instructions from the RTC, the train should stop all together if there is a signal failure. That system should’ve prevented this as well. That didn’t happen here for some reason.

From what everyone tells me, the guy was a good engineer and the dude basically never forgave himself for what happened that day. Outside of what happened, no one has anything bad to say about this guy. Had a good track record and was even about to retire.
