Yes . Genesee Conservation League. Be prepared for lots of cash outlay ( first time memberships plus annual fee around 300), required classes b4 any shooting occurs, and IME, a lot of fudds. Are there any outdoor ranges in Monroe county? I have not been able to find anything but indoor ranges so far.
No offense intended if your a member, but I found it to be lackluster due to costs and requirements. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me, as my experience with 2 members while doing some fact finding was far less than stellar. As mentioned: Home | GCL
Outdoor pistol bays to 50 yards, almost always pretty empty. A lot of indoor bays. Archery range to 50 yards, 3D archery course as well. 200 yard rifle range. It's all bench shooting for that, but annual dues are $150 give or take depending on your membership type. It's a gem, and it's also grandfathered in as no way in hell a town around here would allow one of these new now, but it started decades back before Penfield was of any size.
None taken. I've heard ontario rod and gun is much better for people who are closer to the start of their life than the end. I've never been there, but it's too far. The nice thing about GCL is its location. I wish it had a tactical range and steel. There is limited steel for handguns (very, very limited). If it had a shotgun course or something for an AR it would get a ton more attention, but it has a lot of old guys.No offense intended if your a member, but I found it to be lackluster due to costs and requirements. End of the day I pay $12/month to be able to shoot at a range close by, and there's no work requirement, either. I still think it's a great deal for what you get.

Thank you for the insight. A friend and I seriously considered them, as he is a senior and would recieve the discount and would split the cost, i would only go as a guest, but eventually declined. Partially due to price, but heavily weighted on the conversation I had with 2 random members in thier parking lot one day.
The short story of it went something like this,
Me- Hello there! Was wondering about membership here. Could you share with me the costs and what's available?
Members- (proceeds to explain about multiple courses required to take over several weekends to shoot, the membership fees and everything under the rules, while expounding his superiority over new members)
Me- ok. I'm mainly interested in the rifle range. I currently don't have a pistol permit. What distance does it go to?
Member- 200 yds.( again proceeds to state his participation in monthly shooting contests, and how many he has won)
Me- that's great
Member- what do you intend to shoot?
Me- an AR-15
Member- ( certain look of scowl and disgust on his face) " Oh.....one of those".
Member immediately turns face and walks away.
Not very inviting.
We sound similar. I'm 52, also live near Rochester, bought my first 2 guns recently ( an AR 15 in May and a Henry golden boy lever action. 22 exactly 1 week ago) and also dont wish to deal with the judgement. IMO all firearms owners need to be supportive of all other firearms owners, as we are a small group in NYS. Judgement is for children, and were both to old to more ourselves in it.That is just the kind of attitude that I would prefer to avoid. I am 49 and just got my first gun(s) two ARs. I like that I can build them and know everything about it. I will eventually get other things but I just want to have a place that I can go and enjoy what I have at an outdoor range without judgement.

You can definitely shoot ARs there. Just on the bench or in the standing bayI own 2 ARs and that's it so maybe Genesee is not the place for me. Not really looking to drive huge distance either. If I was going to drive far to shoot I would just head to Albany where I have friends that shoot.
He's a fudd. I talk to none of them. When I joined I sat in a session for a few hours one saturday and that was all I needed to do. Very easy. Then you get a card, and you can go to the range and never talk to a soul if you don't want to. I've brought my AR several times and never been hassled. I've seen a few others with them. Most guys are just with bolt guns but it's no big deal. The rules really are straight forward and not hard to abide by.Thank you for the insight. Back before all this started they were getting $.23 a round. I do know it went up but not sure now. They have prices on their website but not sure if it's been updated. If you get their yearly membership you can bring your own ammo. I plan on going in the next week or so and will update prices.Yes curious what they charge for ammo.

Love shooting at GCL. Great folks up there. The 200 yard rifle range does have a sitting station, a prone, and an offhand station as well. You can shoot from 25 to 200 yards in increments. Best money I've spent this year (other than ammo)! As mentioned: Home | GCL

I am an AR shooter as well. Nobody seems to mind.
They do all expire at the same time. It expires around May or June of each year. However, I signed up in an august and I'm pretty sure they pro-rated my membership amount. Also the $300 is only first time because of the $100 initiation (or whatever it is). Once settled in you're paying $150/year give or take depending on membership type.I will be checking them out but I am not looking to spend about $300 for a membership that will expire in December. I have heard from more then one person that their membership runs on the calendar year and not a year from signup. That is preventing me from joining and I have seen nothing on their website that allows for non-member use.

Blimey is correct. Membership runs from June to June, and they do prorate the membership fee based on number of months left until the next June. For less than $350, I signed up for the indoor (rimfire and handgun) and outdoor (rifle) ranges for a year. Based on other range's hourly prices, I've already paid off this membership. They do all expire at the same time. It expires around May or June of each year. Just checked out Ontario rod and gun club. It is a bit far, but pricing looked VERY reasonable ( 100/year for the membership interested in, like 115 for family), has trap, competition 3 gun, might have a clubhouse with food ECT. You were right, seems like a great place. Thanks for the tip!None taken. I've heard ontario rod and gun is much better for people who are closer to the start of their life than the end.
