Yeah, but is there a mechanism that allows you to forgo the "carry" permit and just have a permit that allows you to keep your pistols at home, with the occasional trip to the range, and not have the State swoop in and steal everything you've worked so hard to acquire?

I know of no legal mechanism. Any king of handgun ownership in My part of the State requires submission of a lot of paperwork and time waiting.And, My 2 cents, IF I could only have a "premise" permit, I'd forget that and just stock up on 00 buck.

So, I was due in January 2023, I just went online through the link above and first confirmed that date, and then did the recertification today 9/2/22, and now my expiration date shows as 9/2/2027, for what that's worth

Right now, that paper is garbage anyways... Because by State decree, you only have Rights on paper and can't do a damned thing with your funny little license!

Unless long guns are "registered" they are of no issue. In the event they have data on anyones long guns, shame on them and civil rights violations. Lots of people with long guns and no handguns.

I’m not sure if you are trying to be funny or really don’t know but recertification of pistol permits has been a thing for a while now.

If you indeed do have one and didn’t know, you should look into it since eventually when they get around to the thousands upon thousands that haven’t, they will get revoked.

But something tells me that you know being that you are a long standing member of this forum. It would be almost impossible not to know.

Is it a law of you give up your permit you lose your gun rights? I don’t think so. I know if you lose your pistol permit then you have no gun rights in NYS. That’s bullshit too with all this going on. I can’t see how NYS automatically makes you a prohibited person if you don’t fill out a form.

Has anyone not recertified 4 or 5 years ago. I know there were some who said they wouldn't. Just curious if the ones who never recerted got contacted by the State or had any issues permitting a new handgun or transferring one.
