Speaking of olympics is anybody watching? I used to really look forward to them but the past several I've completely not bothered with. I think a couple of issues: 1) they are often in different time zones, and the results are gleefully posted all over news sites so it's impossible to even watch without knowing the result, 2) and actually far worse an hour of olympics will consist of about 25 minutes of ads, 25 minutes of idiotic commentators yapping, and 10 minutes of sport. It's a patent waste of time. Since I no longer have a way to DVR live tv it's just not really watchable.
Given covid in japan and the fact that as recently as this week they were actively discussing cancelling them, there are no crowds. I suspect this will be the weakest olympics ever for ratings.

Same here. Used to love the Olympics until it became a political theater and talking heads like Bob Costas wanted to make it all about themselves.
I remember how exciting it was when the torch passed through my hometown in 1996 on the way to Atlanta. Huge crowds were out to watch the procession go by. I wouldn't even take the time these days to try and see it.

I have zero intentions of watching any of it. And for similar reasons. And also, I hate network tv and it's relentless agenda which will be on full display.
I'd not be surprised if the actual games take the passenger seat with the agenda behind the wheel.

I pretty much stopped watching after the Nancy Kerrigan incident. When they decided to "split" the Olympics into summer and winter versions so as to better capitalize on it I gave up. I honestly don't know which one is going on right now, though I'll assume "summer" since soccer was a thing.
It used to be that an athlete worked hard and trained for what could very well be the pinnacle of their career. Most of them seemed like humble people, overwhelmed by the honor of competing for their Country, presenting a wholesome image of someone who works hard and cares about others.
Remember when Olympic athletes would risk their lives to escape the oppression and tyranny of their home Country? When they had to leave family and friends in an effort to show the world how bad their home governments were?
Now all they need to do is "take a knee" and don't even have to leave their cushy high paying positions to "protest" whatever horrible treatment they were coached to regurgitate.
It's become just another shit show. High paid actors parroting whatever lines they are fed.
