Received my NYPD/NYC home premise license. Looking for a pistol gun shop?

I was hoping not to spend anything over $600 while living on the grounds of King Cuomo State. I think NYC has about 3 shooting ranges while NJ has MANY. I completed my NRA PHASE 2 at GUNFORHIRE and loved the place. Once GUNFORHIRE completes their new storage facility I will purchase a SCAR 17 nj compliant.

Tomorrow i will definitely pass by Collector Rifle & Ammo Hopewell Junction, NY. According by Collector Rifle & Ammo i can purchase a pistol with the nyc NYPD documents without FFL transfer.

I would go with the Glock. Not because it’s “better” but because of the after market products and knowledge. Reliable, long life between maintaince, and you can learn to do almost anything to fix it on line and order the part yourself.

You are in a place where you would need permission to take it to a gunsmith and don’t have a second gun or a “loaner” gun while waiting for it.

Plus, in SHFT kind of world , having the same gun the police in your area have, might be a plus. Just the moment’s hesitation by a responding officer seeing you carrying the “good guy” gun and thinking you might be a cop too, might save your life.

And they are probably easier to find in your area

I assume this is a internet find... Sorry to burst you bubble. But threaded barrel and 15rd mags are banned in NY. and especially "NYC".

Like BD said ^ ONLY 10 round magazines are allowed in NY.

So far price drop at $400 from what im reading on here.. No point in getting a $1000 pistol and can't do much but shoot at westside rifle & pistol range.

A plain Jane G19 with 10 round mags I think is fine. I don't think NYC has a pistol roster (yet) but the threaded barrel precludes this from NY state purchase regardless of municipality.

Is too recommend collectors . they are also the only place you will find a CZ . anything in westchester will be expensive. I havent been to L&L in harrison so I cannot comment about that place.

They have pretty decent prices too. Both handguns I've purchased have been from there.

but what isn't a joke is that your Pistol cant leave the City once you install it there.

no traveling to pistol matches outside the city.

Please let me know what the code and section number is. I actually have a unrestricted permit outside of NYC for the same pistol. They looked at the information from my NYC one and copied the make model and serial number and printed it on the unrestricted permit. I never had to bring it in for inspection at the unrestricted county so that they can copy the serial number directly from the pistol. They trusted what was printed on the NYC permit. And I still renew my NYC permit because it would be pain to get it back if I let it go expired. After all it only took me 3 months to get it back in 2008 and my guess is it will only be longer and more pain in the butt now.

Thats an odd situation,Cj.Your NYC permit doesnt let you leave the city,your upstate permit doesnt let you bring it to NYC.Be careful you dont lose both.

NYC no longer allows that from what I've read. It sounds like your upstate county just issued you a licence without requiring forwarding paperwork from NYC since they thought you were moving there. NYC isn't aware that you have an upstate license and keeps renewing the premise license.

I'm no lawyer but I read the laws a lot. Once out of the City, you are licensed by Penal law 400. However, if your driver's license doesn't have an upstate address on it, technically it isn't valid since you were supposed to notify them within 10 days.

Just be aware of that.

I had a NYC permit before moving upstate.When I applied in Columbia county,I had to sign a release for them (Columbia) to get my NYC file.They gave me a temp Columbia County permit that expired when my NYC permit would have.When I got the permanent Columbia permit,I couldnt renew anything in NYC since they didnt even have a file on me anymore.Dont know how you are keeping 2 permits,do you have 2 different drivers licenses/addresses?

What State is the "unrestricted permit" for?

NYC handgun rules: You are allowed to transport it to/from a gun range in the 5 boroughs. You may bring it out of NYC, into NY State if you have a hunting authorization card. You cannot bring your guns out of state (see Beach v Kelly). You must own at least one handgun to maintain the license (you cannot get a premise license just to rent a gun at a range, or keep it anywhere other than your home).

John Jovino is the only "real" gun store left in Manhattan. It is a less than half assed operation operated (owned?) by a Chinese American named Charlie. I bought a huge .454 Casul revolver from him specifically for hunting which he had to order, but received in just a few days. It's too much gun for me and I want to sell it. I belong to the West Side Range which also does some gun smithing and supposedly deals in guns, but the one time I asked them to get something for me they never pursued it. Beretta operates a beautiful store in Manhattan but they only sell their own products and i'm not sure they handle their handguns there. There are a few stores in Brooklyn and the Bronx but I have no experience with them. It's really a shame; Jovino way-back-when was a first rate operation carrying everything, and within a few blocks of Jovino there were at least 3 other gun shops---all gone now. Incidentally, you can buy outside of NYC, but possibly not from outside the state. Check with the licensing division for the requirements. You definitely don't ant to screw this up. And, if you want to buy a "hand cannon" for hunting, let me know. It's a beautiful piece, highest recommended by Gun Tests Magazine and still "new in the box", with less than 20 rounds iired. It's just more than my 77 year old hands can handle comfortably. Incidentley, under the so called "SAFE Act", you have to buy your ammo face to face, so forget about those nice deals in the catalogs. They refuse to ship to NYC (NYS?) residents. However, Buffalo Bore and Double Tap did ship me "high test" center fire ammo, but I could find no one that would ship plain old .22 standard velocity CCI target ammo. Go figure.....
