I know a couple of older guys that have gone with "fuck them" over the whole thing. certification, recertification, any of it. No one has come knocking on their door that I know of.

What a dick. Erie County's position is, it's none of our business, Albany's problem. I do suspect that the "new", infringement oriented firearm and ammo background check will be linked to this sooner or later.
I would expect nothing less of the NY nanny state comrades.

I have heard reports of people never doing the recertification and no issues as well.

No issues yet but when buying or selling a handgun, one may find the permit is revoked and now are in possession of a handgun illegally. I don’t support it but I do know murphy’s law

Where I currently reside, I can purchase and walk home with my Firearm... Such a weird and foreign concept... Feels unusual and uncanny. But is the way it should be. As a matter of fact, the State has not interaction with the transaction, no record of sale, serial # or whatnot.
Smells, tastes, a lot like exercising that funny little Right, as it was meant to be (Shall Not Be Infringed)...

A guy I know never recertified back when it was enacted by the unSAFE act. He doesn't own a computer and didnt bother manually doing it. That is like 11 years now. He still has permit. Of course he hasn't bought a pistol since that point. Seems like the counties and the NYSP are still not communicating shit with each other.

I know some judges are against the whole recert thing... I wonder what would happen if Albany tried revoking a person's permit over not recerting, but the originating county's judge told NYS to go take a fuck.
With "permits" being issued by county, I don't believe any law in NYS gives authority otherwise for revocation. So yeah, a defiant Judicial conglomerate in a county could resist Albany... But then I'm sure those Judges would be reassigned! Lol

Nothing so far. I did a transfer on someone (hypothetically) and she was not aware. Hadn't done it in eight years. She knocked it out on the internet and got her notice she was good for another 5 years (Before the three year thing). So no-one is checking or taking action......yet.

That and no funding. When they stood up the background check portion of the NYSP, there was no funding or provision for it. The folks that got slapped with that job had to scramble and didn't have a lot of resourcing. The disconnect is also between State and County communication. Permits are by NYS law at County level (To not violate the FOPA). So the permit is issued by County, recert is State. Who's on first?

This past week the Biden administration cancelled some student loan debt after SCOTUS said the Executive Branch didn't hold the authority to do so. That authority is in the Representative Branch of our Govt, our Congress.
The reality is that precedent has been set in that the Executive Branch removed the Judicial Branch's role in our republic by ignoring the ruling. That is a constitutional crises if there ever was one. The idea that any one Branch of Govt could simple ignore/remove a Branch that provides the checks and balances as set forth in our constitution, is extremely alarming and a form of tyranny.

And the saddest part is the “House” is doing nothing about it and none of the tax paying class are up in arms about this. Now if , some sort of benefit or forgiveness was extended to old white folks, there would be action all over the Country.

The problem is really that most everyone under the age of 40 believes we live in a democracy (mob rule by simple majority). Unless questioned and they think before answering, then some may refer back to high school history and say Republic. But in there minds the two are the same.
The media and acadamia have done a fantastic job of conflating that the words democracy and democratic are synonymous. Today two generations can't tell them apart. I always take the time to explain yo the younger ones the differences.
Although some of Gen Z is starting to push back on the globalist movement out of pure self entitlement and the I'll do for me mentality, I'm not doing for you. Fight ww3 on your own. Which may sound great but as the next generation evolves, we are closer to anarchy than the restoration of a republic. In my opinion anyway at this point in time.

Have done or are leaning / polling? We'll see; especially in NYS. With fire arms minorities and religious folks should be paying more attention to current stats and trends. Self protection as a whole has become infringed upon in this state. All the way down to plastic knuckles and other items. Stormy got a vest. That mother of two in Buffalo afraid of the RSO not stopping bullets denied. Stormy survives.
