RECERTIFICATION QUESTIONS

The time for pistol permit recertification is coming soon I don’t have to tell any of the members of NYGF that. What I have thought about recently is what will NYGF see in its forums that is posted by the “less aware” as the time comes closer and after January 31st.


IMO I think us regulars will begin to see an increase in membership of the forum with many of the new members being FUDDs along with the low informed gun owner and the genuinely angry.


Questions I believe that will be asked by these new members will go something like this:

• Why do I have to re-certify my pistol permit?
• Who passed this stupid law?
• Do I have to list my shotguns?
• Is the notice to surrender my firearms a search warrant ?
• What happens if I do not re-certify?
• Will I be arrested?
• What happens to my pistols?
• How can they take my long guns when this is about a pistol permit?
• How do I get my guns back?
• Does anyone know a good 2A attorney? (we can give them Shooters name)

I’m not sure how I will respond to some of the stupidness that I think will be coming our way. Identifiable FUDDs will get ragged on, low informed owners will be told to open their eyes, and the angry will be asked where were they February 2013 or April 2013 (mud day) June 2013 or April 2014.


I’m sure some good people are going to be impacted by this bad law perhaps if they voted last gubernatorial election this wouldn’t be happening. I will not concern myself with their problems.

Wonder what's going to happen when I don't re-certify. Wonder if they are going to go to my old address looking for my handguns. My Son now owns the house, he has his NYS PP. This may get interesting as our names are the same, except he has a middle name. We purposely UN-co-registered all of our handguns last time I was up there, just so they can't break his balls about what handguns are in the house, and where the rest are.

I guess we'll just wait and see how it plays out.

I was at my monthly club meeting last night, one member clearly had no idea how to fill out the form, let alone didn’t have access to a computer. At this point I'm totally frustrated. It's going to be a shit storm in January folks. Listening to the questions I hear at work, some people are not competent enough to drive. These are not old farts either. To think, people are supposed to make "informed" decisions on election day? What lives do these people lead that make their minds so dull and soft?

Just an FYI, my lady friend works in the Niagara County court building, she told me they are helping people with recertification at the PP office there.
Supposedly they ran an article in the local rag here on recert, next day the PP clerk was flooded with calls from people who knew nothing about it.

FUAC for causing a bunch of unnecessary bullshit for what I bet are mostly older people like my dad who had no idea about it too.

NYS Pistol Permit Recertification

Welcome to the New York State Pistol Permit Recertification Website. The terms "Pistol Permit", "Pistol/Revolver License" and "Firearms License" are synonymous and will be used interchangeably throughout this process. In order to recertify your Pistol Permit it will be necessary for you to provide accurate and timely information in the required fields. You should have your Pistol Permit and your New York State Driver License or Non-Driver Identification, as providing specific information from these documents will be necessary.

If your permit was issued before January 15, 2013, the deadline to submit your recertification is January 31, 2018. If your permit was issued on or after January 15, 2013, the deadline to recertify is five years after the date the permit was issued. Now I buy a new pistol.
Do I amend the letter to the NYSP?

As for the issue being discussed, I renewed my license last year or maybe it was earlier this year, no big deal. My county PD made no mention of a recertification in 5 years, just another renewal which is nothing new here as that has been ongoing a long time.

Recertification though implies something more than mere renewal, or so it seems to me. While, I had no clue before tonight that a recertification of some sort will be required, now I have a bit of a clue; yet, that bit is not much to go on to educating me to the requirement or the process. How about a link to the website you quoted please so I can get more info on the requirement and process. Thanks.

A: It is possible that not all pistol/revolver license holders will receive a letter. It is your responsibility to recertify your pistol/revolver license whether you receive a notification letter or not.

Knowing damn well many people did not and will not get any notification and truly don't know what's going on, this is an easy way to revoke permits and disarm NY'ers.

Thanks for the link. As per info in that link I do not need to recertify under the NYS recertification system, I guess because it already sucked pre-safe act in Nassau County, NC already had a 5 year renewal requirement.

Q: Are pistol / revolver license holders in New York City, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and Westchester County required to recertify using the New York State recertification system (per subsection 10(b) of section 400.00 of the penal law)?

A: No. If you currently have a New York City, Nassau County, Suffolk County or Westchester County permit, you must follow the requirements that are in place in your county, rather than use the New York State recertification system.

When you mentioned it, I thought it meant something in addition to renewal but now seems to essentially be the same as what was already going on down here since before it got pushed on the rest of you, they apparently just call it something different. Thus my having no clue when you mentioned recertification earlier.
