Discretion would be exercised, but you cannot account for the unknown or unexpected which could put you at severe risk with LEO

Likewise, travelling and stopping off at several locations overnight also presents its own risks from the “crazies” in the country

Not sure if holding a NYS permit is an exception or not but as I recall even possession of a live round of ammunition can get you jammed up in DC. Maryland is very restrictive as well.

I recently drive NY - NC and decided to NOT drive around NJ, MD, etc. because fuck you very much. Went straight down 95 though them all.

Had some 5,000+ rounds of various ammunition, including but not limited to HP rounds loaded into my vehicle. Did have some firearms as well, those were unloaded and locked in a separate compartment, away from any easy access. Ammo was piled in the middle of the back, on top of folded down seats, some ammo boxes (30 Cal Mil Type+), some bins, and covered with a blanket, ie, not in plain view! That wasn't the only thing loaded into the vehicle as it was pretty packed.

I didn't even think about it... Other than here and there worrying about a fucking deer jumping out into the roadway, LMAO! We left as it was still dark out. We stopped for food and bathroom breaks as well. Again, never a thought.

Point is, and maybe it's a statistical thing... Just do what you do! As noted, but with any long trip, check your vehicle, fluids, tire pressures, lights, etc. Follow the rules of the road, be smart. But be conspicuous, not the other way around. Don't stand out, don't look different, etc., etc.

For me, I just didn't feel like driving an extra 1.5 hours to go "around" all that, for compliance sake... Fuck that!

And yeah, if I ran into an issue in those draconian municipalities, I was, and would be, fully prepared to "Fight" for my Rights! Whatever it would have taken! But hey, that's just me!
