Recommendations For Aftermarket Cheek Pad

Recently acquired a new toy, and it has a straight comb stock. I'm mounting a scope and obviously will need to get a cheek piece or take the beating.

There are a number of strap-ons (No! Not that kind!!), nicer ones seem to be Blackhawk, and I have seen some on eBay that are Kydex arcs that mount to the butt-stock, but they require drilling through the stock.

Any input appreciated

You can make your own with foam, cloth and tape. The one I put on my LRB M25 cost 65 bucks it is held on by Velcro straps. It is ok but I could have done the same thing with foam, cloth and tape.

Like dsmmat stated, you can make it very efficient with anything from hockey tape to top a top dollar cover.
I guess it depends on what feels good to you and then if sthetics are important to you.
In the end you have to fit the rifle to your body complexity and not the other way around.
Normally is the last thing I would buy unless you already measured the scope. 1st order the scope and then 2nd order the rings and
might want to order the pad then or wait until you have everything and mock up one in the mean time. Masking tape is good to figure
out dimensions before ordering the pad. Perhaps what you need is very little after you install rings and you want that scope as low
as you can. You can normally add thickness but you might not be able to remove it, right?

what rifle is it?

It's a Ruger American in 30-06. Already have a scope, and just received, and partially installed, a DNZ "Game Reaper" mount. Essentially it has one piece that is the lower mount and lower part of the rings - only other parts are the top part of the rings - very well made, fits perfectly, and the objective of my Nikon clears the barrel just right.

I don't expect any aftermarket stocks (like Hogue) because of the very different bedding system Ruger uses, which seems to make it a very accurate rifle for the price.

Doing a mock up is probably the best route.

I am not familiar with the ruger or mount bu tconsider bedding the scope base. 30-06 puts a lot of torque.
A simple kydex might work but some folks like something soft like a pad or neoprene or some rubber something to really embrace the rifle.
Try a mock up and then decide. The hockey tape works as good as anything else.

I had to bump it up a little more with some padding. I used liners for silvewear drawers (got at Wal Mart for cheap) to boost it up some more. Inexpensive...a little ghetto...sure but it works for what i need it for. No drilling required. Just make sure you put the laces on tight and it'll be good to go (for what it's worth I've used my rifle a fair amount and they haven't come undone). I dumped the mag pouches (they're worthless in my opinion) but you now have some space for some badass morale patches!

Any of the slip-on butt stock cheek rest w/ pouch will work (some are better quality then others.) Easy to install in seconds.

If you want something that his a little more permanent, then a molded kydex cheek rest would be better.
