a buddy gave me some dummy rounds, so I could practice shotgun loading.

He is a 3 Gun Guy. He taught me basic fast reloading. It’s very cool!

BTW .. fill us in on the dummy rnds ?? whats dummy about them ? ..

( fully loaded so weight is same as live .. just spent primer in them ) .. ??

they are not now nor were they ever real rounds.
they are roughly the same size, maybe a hair short and weigh less than a real 12 gauge.
I think close enough for practice.
just one evening and i am way fast with doubles, have not tried the quad load yet.

The doubles work easy on my friends gun big wide port
my Winchester 1200 is OK for doubles
my Weatherby is tough!

Going to shoot my first 3 gunish match next month and I'm totally unprepared for shotgun. I need to pick up something quick and easy for reloads.

It is Pretty easy to leave to load doubles.

The key to shotgun is if you are not good at reloading , don't reload it. Moat matches arevset up so you can usually overlap shotgun targets with the pistol or rifle. Shoot the clays with the SG and then transition to pistol for steel etc etc.

I always set my matches up so you dont HAVE to reload shotgun......but then i make it very challenging for the pistol (like 60 yard slug targets that you can double tap with the pistol in lieu of one slug) or some other evil setup.

If you suck at reloading the SG. Try not to do it (that also means dont miss!)

Here's an informative video that shows weak hand loading at 3:10 and strong hand at 4:20.


I started with weak hand but fumbled a lot...didn't practice enough. Now I strong hand load and still don't practice enough! After watching this again, I'm going to get one of those Cheekeeze pads for the SX2.

Dummies are expensive, but much safer than using live shells. If you reload for SG or know someone...they may have a better solution...be safe.

Or an auto. I unload my tube through the loading port. I do not chamber a round either.

In the end of the day, even using real shells, just keep your finger off the trigger!
