I have a few lbs of 231. Which, apparently, is the same as HP-38. I found different load data for thatHaven't picked a powder just yet but a buddy (who reloads everything) suggested to me Winchester 572

Hmmm. My Hornady manual has 4.1-4.7 Looking at the above I would start out in that range and see if you get reliable function. This is why it helps to have a chronograph as well.
I'd go with the Hodgdon data and stay strictly within bounds at first. They're pretty conservative with maximums and starting loads. I've yet to get pressure signs on anything I've loaded strictly by the book by Hodgdon. Hornady and others have given me some loads that are a good deal higher and lower than Hodgdon's bounds. I still don't own a chronograph, so I mostly load for accuracy and I've been able to find accurate loads within Hodgdon's ranges. I always load a few rounds to load one-by-one to check my bore to see if it's burning dirty, clean, or leaving unburnt powder. I also check the brass for pressure signs. After I'm satisfied with safety, then I move on to shooting bench-rested groups to see what charge weights get best accuracy and hit closest to point of aim if the handgun has fixed sights.I have a few lbs of 231. Sweet!

If you can get a couple of pieces of lead shot, put one under each of the set screws on the lock rings. It will keep the set screws from digging into the threads on the dies.
Did you load any yet?
Man, stop buying dies and buy a press. For what you spent on dies you don't have a press for, buy this and get a big, bench mounted press later: Lee Hand Press Kit | Cabela'sI dont have a press or anything yet

WOWZA, that brings back memories. I can remember reloading for my 1st .308 rifle with one of those exact kits. It did really well, and turned out some really good rounds.Man, stop buying dies and buy a press.
