Reloading and M1A ejection

I'm looking to get into reloading 762 x 51 NATO. Naturally, I want to save all of my brass for later. With my bolt guns this is no issue. The M1A though gloriously disperses my brass all over god's earth. I've seen attachments that go over the ejection port but I'm lefty so that's an issue. I've seen fences but that's a space problem at the range with the guy next to me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If just using it at the range build yourself a pool bug net that you can put right next to you on the bench. Let me see if I can find a picture.

Limber up, bend over and pick 'em up.

I have one of those gun diapers to catch the brass, but haven't been able to bring myself to use it yet.

Get two old screens (old metal mesh I had, scrap ones from old windows) drill a couple of holes in the small frames so you can put a
couple of zip ties as hinges or some wire. don't tighten them as they have to swivel.
Then put them next to you in the bench or prone the same way a batting cage will collect any balls going wild.
This is the best solution I have found after trying all sort of other methods because it doesn't interfere with my gun or shooting positon.
I just have to make sure it is not too close or too far so it catches most of the stuff.
Even if you are shooting steel or berdan it helps with clean up at the range.

Very simple.

reloading is a good relaxing time specially in those winter evenings when one wants to dedicate some time in solitude
doing some hobby work.

The M1A is extremely hard on brass. Don’t plan on getting too many reloads from them. I get three reloads at the most on brass before the rim is too buggered up to reload again. 4 shots and toss is my rule of thumb the the M1A, which really sucks because in addition to the 308 I also have one in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I use a cheap pop up mesh laundry basket, the one I have has a side that unzips. Put it next to you, whichever side the brass ejects, and it corrals the casing once positioned correctly

There are a number of portable fine mesh nets used for golf practice and soft toss batting drills. They all fold or roll up in to a small portable case.

I had an AK that would put all of the casings in a pile 10 feet forward at the 1 o’clock position.

If you want to go the magnet route, you should reload with the value discounted bulk made in China sourced brass.
