It works. I built mine around 20 years ago. The lumber was salvaged from an old sundeck. I bought the plywood.
I used leftover paint to make the salvaged wood look presentable. Then I put a few coats of polyurethane over it.
If you build it, make the bench top overhang come out more. I find the bolt pattern of some of the presses winds up smack in the middle of that front 2x4 (C). Perhaps at 2x8 instead of a 2x6 in "Step Four" would correct that.

I love this design, but it would of cost to much to have it made.
I'll have to take a pic of what my son built for me. Mine is a full length shelf in a walk in closet. Not the best but it works for me.

My son came out here and built it for me. we put a 2x10 on the wall to hold the 2x4 frame and act as a back stop. the top is a piece of 1" plywood and a piece of 5/8" plywood. under the plywood is pieces of 2x12 where the presses are mounted. A little over kill, but you could screw two big fat ladies on it and it sure as hell wouldn't squeak.
I like the pegboard on the side & back.

That looks like a solid design. I built something similar a few years ago, but went with peg board as the bench backing. An overhang is a must in the front.

I don't have any over hang on the front and it works OK for what I have set up. The press mounting slots are far enough back to miss the 2X4 frame work and when you cycle them they miss the frame work as well.
I do need to tie the wiring in so I have outlets on both sides of the reloading shelf and the floresent light up above the shelf under the storage shelf up above. I have two outlets right under the shelf on both sides plus a switch for the reloading light on the left side by the door.

I had to get real creative to make a reloading space as I live in a NYC townhouse. What started out as a small, sloped ceiling attic with no floor or lighting became my mini-mancave with a nice little bench, shelving between the studs and a few overhead lights with a plywood floor. I had to cut the plywood into small rectangles because the opening to climb up is so small!
Took a lot of work (and hot as a bitch in the summer), but its a true "mancave" because my girl can't even get up there if she wanted to.

i built my bench before i even got into reloading , it was just a work shop for anything ..
I had a ton of 2x4's so just cut them up into 6 foot lengths ..
screwed the first to the wall studs and then grabbed the next one and screwed it to that 2x4 ..
repete... till bench was 24 inches deep ,added front legs and covered with some luan and topped off with 4 coats of poly ..
its not moving ..

Just fuckin with you, it is a great use of dead space. I'd buy a small air-conditional to use up there in the summer.Some times you have to do what you have to do to get it done. It took e a long time to get my area built I have been buying used reloading stuff for a long time before I actually got it done thanks to my oldest son.
What kind of system are you useing, I use the Hornady Lock & Load single-stage press. I have the traditional Pacific (Hornady) single-stage press set up just in case I want to use it. With the Lock & Load system once the dies are set up you just give them a 1/4 turn take them out and put the next one in, no resetting the dies once they are set up.
I have to buy some more of the quick set adapters for some new dies I bought. Just starting out I have been loading 38spl, I have been loading test bullets up in groups of 5 for each level of powder charge for each powder. I've been loading up 160 grain FMJ bullets, I have all of the test loads loaded for one revolver.Once I see which load it likes then I'll get the Hornady pull handle powder measurer set up and then the electric Hornady powder measurer set up to see which will be faster. I did buy the Pistol and Rifle Micromiter gauges for the pull handle powder measurer so I can get the setting and write it done in my reloading log for each proven load.
My index cards for this load- bullet combo, I keep these in a plastic index card holder with "NEW LOADS" on it. Once I shoot the gun, my 7 1/2" 357 Redhawk from a pistol rest I'll write doen the group size on the index card next to the grain weight and see what combos work the best. Then I'll load up another batch and try another gun on down the line.
I have to get the 357 magnum dies set up to load them up. I'm looking for more 357 magnum brass if any one has any extra.
My plastic cartridge holders with my reloaded ammo,I have an X on the very end of the plastic shell holder were the light loads are so I won't get them mixed up. This calls for a long range day, I want to shot five of them clean the gun, shoot five more and clean the gun until I shoot them all up.

I still use a Lee single stage. I haven't seen the need to upgrade yet as it fits my needs and volume.
I'm planning to get a vent van installed eventually. There is already a capped hole through the roof right above where I sit.

If you leave the opening open with a vent you should get some airflow going, Don't forget to leave a near by window near the access hole open for air flow as well.
I have a cheap aluminum Lee press and other reloading equipment that I will be putting together to take with me when I go camping.I'm going to have everything mounted on 1" plywood that I can just clamp down on to a picnic table. and load. I'll make up a box, 1"x2" frame work with masonite to box it in with a hindged top to carry it in.
I love shooting out in the Cascade Mountains miles off the main road. The only thing out there that will fuck with you are the Meth Cooks that you run in to. Just carry a large caliber handgun with lots of bullets to clean house.

That will work, doesn't look like much head room. Looks like your loading for 5 different calibers. Being in the City where do you buy your powder & primers?
That green box to the left is actually another set (.38/.357), but I don't load that caliber much. I also do 9mm, .45ACP, .30-06, .300RUM and 7.62x39.
I'm out and about a lot, so I usually pick up in person at stores out of the city, but a few guys at work reload so we put together group buys every so often also.
Recently I got 5lbs of 4198 for free from someone who walked into the precinct looking to "dispose" of it (found in a house he bought to renovate). I very appreciatively told him I would "dispose" of it properly.
I'm out and about a lot, so I usually pick up in person at stores out of the city, but a few guys at work reload so we put together group buys every so often also.
Recently I got 5lbs of 4198 for free from someone who walked into the precinct looking to "dispose" of it (found in a house he bought to renovate). I very appreciatively told him I would "dispose" of it properly.

I like them wire baskets that hook on the peg board, I bought a box of peg board hardware from Lowes and then some individual items that I thought might be useful.
What do you have in 7.62X39? I have a Chinese SKS that I bought to flip. I took it our shooting to make sure it cycled and fell in love with it. The ammo cost me $5 a box out the door at a pawn shop I go to.
I also got a good deal on four or five boxes of 30 caliber Carbine ammo.

I just took a pig with my KS-47 thursday! 7.62x39 is my favorite round for hunting. The KS-47 is a Palmetto State Armory hybrid AR that uses AK mags. It functions flawlessly unlike the previous iterations I had based on the AR platform using AR mags. I have a Stoner barrel/bolt combo that produces fantastic accuracy that I moved from the AR to the AK. Both rifles were self-built.
The 4198 is from IMR. I have a few loads that I love in my rifle depending on the bullets I have on hand. I'll soon get around to playing with some Xtreme plated bullets for target practice so I can keep my stash of surplus ammo tucked away "just in case".
