I don't think you need to cast anything. You know what the chamber denomination is.
All you need to know for each chamber and bullet brand/model you want to use is:
A) find freebore that is find out max coal as dictated by the chamber and then you know you can back down from there and hopefully fit in the magazine.
I would go as long as the chamber will allow (Max -10 tho. or so) and will fit in the shorter magazine I intend to use. Some AR gi mags will take 2.280 happily.
Make a dummy/inert round with your max and use it as a template for starting point later on. If you do not have a case gauge you can use the system by slightly
sizign the neck (just barely) and seating each bullet type you want to find out that is tight enouhg to be pushed by the lands but not to fall into the case and
could be pulled back out with your fingers. firm but not so tight will need a puller otherwise might also jam into the lands.
B) compare the fired cases for headspace. Ideally with a case comparator but you can improvise with another case. Also compared to a FL sized round and
with this information you can adjust the dies (unscrew 1/8 turn at the time) so you might not want to push the shoulder back more than needed of course you could neck size only too. You also have competition shelholders that are 1,2,3 thousands shorter as needed.

Are you asking if there is a difference in loads IF SO yes but your manual should tell you that. Where chambers are concerned if you don't know which brass was fired from which weapon DO NOT NECKSIZE full length size! I just checked my manual and generally speaking the Semi loads are less than the Bolt gun loads with the same bullet weights. I myself have not created any loads for a .223 as I don't shoot that caliber. If I shoot for varmints it is a 22-250. Hope this answered your questions.

What's the consensus on the "beginner" reloading setups? More specifically, the Hornady 85003 Lock N Load Classic kit? Got a friend potentially selling one, and a friend who wants to possibly buy a setup for her bf so we can reload together.
We don't always shoot every weekend, but we may shoot more, but we're starting to get into long distance shooting, and he has talked about doing hand loads for consistent shots and whatnot.
I'm trying to read up as much as I can, but I wasn't sure if there was a difference between this, the Classic Deluxe, or the RCBS Supreme Master kit.
I guess I'll put it at this. We wanna reload what we shoot now - 223, 308, 30-06, 40sw, what can this kit do and what can't it do?

I started with that kit. I've only done rifle so far and 308 is one of the ones I've done. The only thing I'm not currently using out of that kit is the One-Shot lube and the scale.
The scale just didn't feel consistent so I went to an RCBS beam scale. I'm very much considering switching to a ChargeMaster type of device. It takes a lot of time to measure and trickle charges.
For lube, I use Imperial Case Sizing Wax on the body and Imperial Dry Lube for the necks. This is to eliminate lube contamination of the powder... Some people size and decap dirty brass at the same time and this is how the dies are designed. I prefer to decap (using a universal decapping die) and then clean the brass. After cleaning and drying, I size but without the decapping pin. Using the dry lube on the necks means I don't have to clean again and can prime and charge the case (two separate steps) without the powder grabbing waxy, greasy lube as it falls into the case. With the wax, I can control exactly where on the body the lube is applied and how much. It needs to be applied consistently and sparingly or your sizing (aka "bump" or shoulder set back) will vary a bit. Supposedly the sprays are much easier to use.
You'll need a set of dies for each caliber, primers, powders and bullets. That should be enough to get some rounds reloaded. Personally, I wouldn't reload without a case gauge and/or a head space gauge (you'll need calipers to use this one). If you follow the die setup instructions, it should give you in-spec ammo that will shoot in any properly chambered rifle but I personally feel that using a gauge to be certain is a necessary step.
Eventually, you will need a case trimmer for rifle. As the case gets fired and resized, the brass migrates toward the mouth of the case. After a few firings, your case length will exceed specs and need to be trimmed back.

Sounds like my buddy is gonna make me be the one to learn all this and do it, since I like to do stuff like this and he doesn't quite have the patience, haha. I do have a digital caliper, so that should help.

Calipers are pretty close to essential. Technically they aren't required to reload because you can use a case gauge to measure your cases. That said, mine are the most used tool on the bench.

As far as the equipment I don’t push any company. Where precision is concerned for me the more precise you can get the better! Where COAL is concerned I set my dies and check my coal with vernier calipers.

bought like 5 3 hole turrets so once set up just plug in play for different cal's
a old friend of my dad bought me a lee digital scale which i love for my b-day a few yrs ago. the balance beam just got old was so slow ..
reload with my bud and his wife .. 380 , 9mm , 10mm , 357 , 270 , 223 , and now we need to get 2 more die sets and turrets for 6.5 creedmore and 243 ..
vernier calipers , case prep station , lee trim sets for the rifle stuff ..
