Reloading scale

I reloaded a bunch of ammo and toward the end I decided to check the scale weight against another scale and was shocked at the difference, not even close, both are counter-beam scales. So now I'm pretty sure the one I use for reloading is correct but don't know for certain. A few years ago I checked against a marked weight made for that purpose and it was right on.
I don't like to do this stuff with doubt's about my equipment. What are you guy's using, I don't care, counter-beam or electronic, I just want to have a scale I can trust.

I have a RCBS electronic (older), a RCBS 505 (backup), and a RCBS 10-10 (vintage, antique, collector). All three are right on.

What you want is a check-weight set. My electric scale came with a pair, good for x-ref on the beam scales. When I'm reloading with the electronic scale, I'm checking and re-calibrating about every half hour.

Keep in mind electronic devices closer than a foot to an electronic scale can throw it off, this includes fluorescent lights (ballast) and LED bulbs. Motors, radio speaker.................

Also, beam scales have to be perfectly level to zero them, if you zero it then move it on the bench you just threw your zero off.

I use a cheap digital scale for quick checks and a RCBS 505 for more precise work. The digital scale sometimes wanders and needs calibration. The 505 never drifts.

I also have a small set of test weights I can use if I think something funny is going on.

Get a set of check weights. Lyman is the best value. Check with weights close to your charge.

I actually chiseled out notches in by bench for the scale so it can't move after zeroing it in. I will get those check weights.

They say that the Ohaus 505 sets the standard for scales.

I like and trust mine.

I used to have an electronic scale but it flaked out and would not weigh accurately anymore. I tossed it and now I just stick with my 505.

I'm using my Lee Safety Scale. It works just fine.

i used to use a beam scale , then got a electonic one for a b-day gift .. came with 2 calibration weights

i think it was RCBS just came out with a powder measure that is highly accurate if you have 900 bucks to spend ..

RCBS is catching up with Autotrickler V3 and falling short. RCBS unit is slower and less accurate and cost about the same. It's not for everyone, but those who need fast and exact charges love Autotrickler. It uses a real lab grade scale unlike RCBS.

On the other hand one can use a set of Lee dippers, Ohaus 505 scale and RCBS hand trickler to produce very accurate charges in a reasonable time. One can do this at a small fraction of the cost of the above mentioned units. When using a balance beam scale, the trick is to place it at an eye level, which makes the process easier and more precise. It makes all the difference when your eyeball, the pointer and the Zero mark are all on the same plane.
