Everything I seen on the net stated they had a date code on the left side of the barrel by the frame. The Barrel doesn't date the gun nor have date codes, inspector or maybe the employee's mark.
Remington uses "BLACKPOWDERX" to identify the year according to the serial number references in the back of the Blue Book of Gun Values.

[t would seem that I'm wrong. does that chart apply to Rifles as well as shotguns? The Rifle in the picture looks like a 740/742/7400 and barrels for those don't exactly get changed the way Shotguns do.Everything I seen on the net stated they had a date code on the left side of the barrel by the frame.
I did include a picture of the serial number, if anyone has access to this Blue Book.
Oh ok I didn't catch that, didn't see it on the Remington Society site either. Unless I missed itmay of 97 look at my other post first letter w final inspector, last number o assemble number two center letters month and year
According to the Remington Society, it's all Remington firearms.[t would seem that I'm wrong. does that chart apply to Rifles as well as shotguns? The Rifle in the picture looks like a 740/742/7400 and barrels for those don't exactly get changed the way Shotguns do.
I have blue book and looked it up in there also but that does not explain the other numbers eitherOh ok I didn't catch that, didn't see it on the Remington Society site either. Unless I missed it
I think I missed it because after reading different sites I took the final inspector mark as something other than a letter. But being 4 marks (letters) makes sense.I have blue book and looked it up in there also but that does not explain the other numbers either
That code isn't on the frame however. They should have worded it better. It's on the left side of the barrel.I pulled out the Blue Book:
"REMINGTON DATE CODE DATA & SXS SHOTGUN SERIALIZATION"
View attachment 182130
Since "Remington" went under, assets sold, and re-opened as "Rem-Arms" they will have NOTHING to do with the previous company; They don't want sell you parts, make repairs, or entertain questions about the former company. All my connections there have left the area and I haven't set foot in >three years, likely won't.That code isn't on the frame however. They should have worded it better. It's on the left side of the barrel.
The serial number on the frame itself doesn't correspond to public data. From everything I've read, Remington can give you a ballpark idea of manufacture date by the serial, but there's no published data. Many people have had no response from Remington.
