Remington 700 SA chassis system, need some input

I've been looking to take one of my 700 Remingtons, this one in .308 and upgrade the factory stock. Need a new project , anyone been using one?
Any recommendations, or any downsides?

Looked around but reviews are mixed as expected on most. The big money systems get best reviews but I'm not spending 2K. Just using it for Target and steel plates at my own range or my buddies place.

You might look into selling your current rifle, and buying a new chassis rifle. The last time I looked into getting a chassis to replace my cheep stock on my Savage it was like $600 or so by the time I have a stock and mags.

Check out the KRG bravo chassis! Awesome company and priced right. I have the KRG X-ray on order right now, and it will be replacing my current Mcree chassis

Anything astounding for the amount of $$ being spent or is it mostly for the tactical appearance and coolness factor??? I'd rather have the money to burn on ammo and hone my skills to ultimate sharpness in a tactical manner. Make every shot count...

Pro’s of a chassis:
Magazine fed
Adjustable length of pull
Cheek riser
Ease of mounting accessories

Ultimately with a chassis you have the ability to make the rifle fit you, vs you trying to fit to the rifle.

Manners and McMillan make some amazing stocks, however they cost just as much as a chassis and you are often waiting months for delivery.

Tony, some can be total boat anchors for sure. The KRG X-ray chassis I have on order weighs in at 3.1 lbs. These systems definitely shine when shooting in the prone.

I have 2 Remington 700s in 308. One is in a bell and Carlson stock, inletted with a DBM, the other in the Mcree chassis. I will weigh them both when I get home and update the thread!

I have the mdt lss on my 20" savage .308. love it. Haven't shot it nearly as much as I've wanted to though. Hopefully that will change in the coming weeks. It was out of commission for about a month in the hands of savage fixing the threads for the action screws(rifle issue, not the chassis.) When I got back into it I noticed a slight increase in consistency when I did my half of it, however I was not shooting great at the time.

McMillan and Hogue make stocks that will accommodate a free-floating barrel and allow for different attachment options (QD, swivel stud, ect.) as well as magazine options. Building up your cheek rest is easy (cushion tape or draw liner underneath a good buttstock pad).

For your purposes (mostly recreational) a chassis stock seems like an overkill. If all you're looking for is a free-floated barrel and the ability to use magazines, there are cheaper options out there.

Some are. Some will actually accommodate a free-floating barrel. There are different variants, just like with any brand of stock.

I did hours of research about stocks and chassis systems for my savage.

In the end, I got an complete MDT used from Northland shooters supply for $300.

The houge full bed blocks are okay, but habe drawbacks like cheek burn.

McMillan was more expensive, and that was not even thinking about bottom metal.

Same with going with something like a bell and carlson, which have the reputation for crumbling when you drill for thr trigger guard...

I like it. My groups only shrank from about 3/4" down to 1/2" ,but it is worlds better than my savage stock. It also feeds and functions perfectly with magpul acis mags.

I hate to say it, but I don't think you will find many people upgrading to a Hogue stock. McMillan makes some beautiful stocks, however I would rule that out as a cheap option. It ultimately comes down to the shooters intent for the rifle and the price he or she is willing to pay.
