I am the proud owner of a Remington 7600 rifle, satin walnut wood, cal. 30/06 Sprg. I will post pics in the future. I will post some tips to help keep your rifle chugging along for those that are interested. First things first-ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR RIFLE IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED BEFORE BEGINNING ANY WORK-LIVE AMMO HAS NO PLACE ON YOUR WORKBENCH. Now, we can begin. We will start with the trigger assembly. Does your trigger feel creepy, spongy and gritty? Easy cheap fix. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for removing the trigger assembly (close the action, remove two receiver pins, pull out trigger assembly) and for cleaning/lubricating this assembly.
With your trigger assembly on a rag, spray indicated 3 points (pivot points) with Rem Oil, let soak for 15 minutes. Spray 3 points again to help rinse off crud, and wrap rag around the assembly and shake off excess lube. The rag will keep you from spraying the oil all over the place while you shake it off, and if any parts come off you will know where they are, in the rag. This is a very simple maintenance item, that helped my trigger pull immensely, yet it is surprising how many people never do it.
Timney also offers a kit for upgrading the trigger on this rifle that includes 3 new springs, giving you your choice of 2, 3 or 4 lb pull weight, and a new sear.
Thanks for reading.
