Remington Arms lays off approximately 60 workers

Another round of layoffs at Remington Arms in Ilion. Workers are being told starting today. Union officials say they've been told that market forces are behind the roughly 60 layoffs; not elimination or moving of a line.


The layoffs are effective upon the employee being informed, and they are seniority-based.

The iconic gun maker celebrated its 200th anniversary last year with the release of eight special-edition firearms. They laid off approximately 122 workers in March.

I like nothing better than blasting this piece of shit governor we have but this is about demand. After Trump won supply overtook demand because people stopped working about not being able to buy guns. Everybody is overstocked. ARs are going for less than $500 online

If Remington hadn't built a modern factory in Alabama because of the unfavorable business climate and onerous gun laws in New York which moved production (and jobs) from New York, I'd blame the economy. But for now, I'm still comfortable blaming governor Monkeyface, his "free shit for everybody" economic policies and of course the un-Safe law.

Demand's cyclical for sure, but Remington's as much to blame for this as anyone IMO.

Remington's abysmal reputation for quality control, and an increasing number of competitors who actually listen to customers hasn't helped their fate. How long does it take to realize that a 1:12 twist for a .223 appeals to very few, or that the 6.5 isn't going away.

This I would tell remington like any other manufacturer: Make products the people want to buy.

As most of us know, the firearm industry is experiencing a Trump Slump.
If an ant-gun politician is in power, manufacturers and distributors reap the profits.
Consumers are stuck with scarcity of product and possibly higher prices.
If a pro-gun politician is in power, manufacturers and distributors are not doing much business.
Consumers have plenty of product and hopefully lower prices.
Difficult for everyone to win.
I know, my brother has a gun store in Roscoe, NY and he is slow.

And this is when the smart folks should be stocking up.
Before long, the pendulum will swing in the other direction. How far, is yet to be seen. But by then, it'll be too late. Would you rather buy your AR for $300 when demand is low and supply is high, or for $1000 when demand is high and supply is low? What about ammo? Ammo prices have been creeping downwards. Remember what they were before Obama though? We'll NEVER see those prices again.

When ammo prices are low, people generally buy more. Profit by volume.

Metals prices are down, specifically copper, lead, steel. This means production costs go down, profit per box of ammo can remain the same.

There is a surplus of ammo and guns out there. Unfortunately Remington layoffs could be a result of that.
Better to have a "Trump slump" in gun sales and protect the 2nd Amend. Then to have a "Hilary hysteria" sale bonanza and get our guns banned.
