Remington R1 last production run?

Anyone ever hear of these and know what they are worth? I saw one for sale in a site and think they guy is asking for crazy money but I don’t know. Apparently these are R1 enhanced 1911’s and only around 500 were made for the workers at the Illion, NY plant.
I’d like a special edition gun but I’m not sure this is it and the guy wants a lot for it.

Never heard of them. I did notice that almost all of the Remington 1911s on Gunbroker were made in Alabama. My stainless R1s is marked Ilion, NY. Not that it makes it more valuable, but it is to me.

I have the R1 Carry from 2013 commercial run, same green case.
They are actually pretty nice, forged steel frame, match grade barrel..originally priced at about $1350-1450 in 2013..got mine new old stock in 2019 for $550.They are great gun for the money, really the last gasp of quality product from Remington.Sadly by 2014 Remington had ruined their reputation and nobody was forking over that much money for there products.

I know a former owner of one. She hated it. 1911's are a little quirky with ammo. The Remington's seemed to really be problematic.

I’d only buy it for an investment, but at the money they are asking for it there’s no way it’s an investment.

Real Value is in the Remington- Turnbull re-issue...........WW1 Remington-UMC guns----$2400 or so. That guy is not thinking clearly.
Trying to create a value when there is only smoke and mirrors is grifting.

The typical buyer of that dog, might be the unwitting ducks Unlimited shotgun buye,r who thought they would be worth 20,000...turned out to be $800 guns, at best.

New Colt WW1 black Army re-issues,, Carbona Blue WWI reissue, and 100th anniversary Colt guns much more interesting...less money too.

Don't forget the 1967 Colt Belleau Wood, Marne and Chateau Thrierry, commerative 1911's.........better than that dog, too.

I’d only buy it for an investment, but at the money they are asking for it there’s no way it’s an investment.

My philosophy on gun purchases is don't buy em if you're not going to shoot them. Buy em, love em, take care of em but burn them out.

Sure, it's rare, but beyond that it's a middling quality 1911 that's only going to be particularly special to a very limited number of people. Rarity alone does not necessarily make something valuable; it requires also desirability. I've got a painting in my living room, it's not only rare but unique.. and I pulled it out of the trash somewhere because I liked it. It's.. not a direct comparison or perfect metaphor obviously.. heh.

I don't personally feel like that particular gun has the.. pedigree to be what collectors are generally interested in (other then relative rarity), except perhaps for people with a connection to the plant or specifically Remington history. It's not something made famous by media or that holds a special place in the firearm world for whatever other reason. It's not really all that uncommon that gun companies (I can think of a couple of Remington examples off the top of my head) have made limited edition runs that were 1 in 500 that nobody ever cared all that much about.

Still, it's rarity and place in Remington history isn't worthless.. but I'd probably put it's price/value somewhere probably right around 2K range (and it wouldn't be worth that to ME at all), and even if someone would disagree and say it's valued higher, I wouldn't expect it to have any reason ever go up in value and I think it would be a very hard argument to make to say it would.. so certainly not an investment gun in any case.

I think she got pissed.

I had a few in the shop. Not that great. Fit and finish was ok but racking the slide felt gritty. They were picky on FMJ ammo. If you look on GB, not many bids on them. If you can get them for a decent price, grab one and mess with it and you can get it to run other than that, look for something else.

That bit of gold engraving adds little to no value. Her brother told her what he paid for it and thinks it’s worth a bunch. I said no one wants them and they are outdated paperweights. I think she got pissed.

I’d be surprised if you could get $749 for one but that’s just me. I said to expect around the $500 range and she wasn’t happy. I said you could as whatever you want, but that’s my opinion.

They were nice and were made in Ilion before the unSAFE Act was passed an Remington gave the fuck-you to NY and moved their handgun and Bushmaster operation to Huntsville, AL.
IIRC the case-coloring came via Doug Turnbull Restorations, and while beautiful pistols, they're only as valuable as someone is willing to pay for esthetics and insignificant local history.

Thanks. I’m going to hold off. I just spent a bunch of cash, but thought I’d the rem was a good deal I pounce on it. I figured it wasn’t but I was just interested to hear what others had to say.
I personally am in love with the Cabot 1911’s so I would like one of them one day, that day May never come but hey one can dream.
