Remmington sold me junk ammo!!!

Yesterday a friend and I were in my yard doing some shooting. I loaded up my 3 inch Ruger GP100 with Remington 357 magnum and fired away. On the 5th round the gun would not rotate in double action. I tried to pull the hammer back, but it would not go.
I removed the last 2 rounds, quickly examined them and tested the gun....it worked fine empty.
I loaded another 6 rounds, and on the third round, it locked up again.
This time I REALLY examined the rounds and noticed the one that would not rotate into the firing chamber, was split down the side. I looked at the two rounds from the previous failed cylinder, and one of them was split. I looked through the rest of the box and found two more split cases. All four were in the first 3 rows in the box. Notice that the two on the left are not even fully seated in the case.
I've had this ammo around for awhile. I bought it from TSUSA online a few years ago.
Im going to contact Remmington obviously.
Does anyone know how to resd the date code on the Remmington box?
They are Remmington HTP 357 mag 158 grain soft points.

Probably 2017-2019 is when I bought it.

Those almost look like reloads. See the rings just above the rim. Looks like sizing die marks. Did you buy them from a store or a person?

I did this reloading .38 cal 158grn. Do believe this happened because of over crimping with Lee factory crimper.

From TSUSA, they were in a glued shut box.
100% factory ammo.
I bought 20 boxes, this is the third from last, all the others fired perfectly.

These are absolutely from the factory and unadulterated.
The box was still glued shut.
I bought them from Target Sport USA along with 19 other boxes that were all fine.
This is a factory issue.
I contacted Remington, ill update when they respond.

All the other rounds are like the 2 on the right and fire fine.
The 2 on the left are the reason the gun would not rotate, the bullet is too far out.
I opened the last 2 boxes and all of the rounds are like the 2 on the right and none have cracks. I opened another box of regular Remington 158 grain FMJ and they are as long as the 2 on the right. The ones n the left are barely in the case.

Well my guess would be a manufacturing issue. Maybe the two rounds on the left weren’t expanded properly and cracked when the bullet was partially seated.

Makes sense that the revolver would not function with those two rounds being out of spec.

Definitely a quality control failure on Remington.

Double check the lot numbers on the other 19 boxes. If the same, someone could have re-glued the box at any warehouse in between. Recently I had a mixed box of .45 acp ammo from Hornady. Half brass half nickel. Mixed bullets but all Hornady. The problem may have other sources. Look at the glue on the flaps, same as glue on other boxes?

1. It's most possible the brass wasn't annealed properly in manufacturing, that would do it.
2. It's less possible one of your cylinders is out of spec on the revolver. Check each one carefully to be sure this is not the case.

I agree with @C3D on the failed annealing process. I have seen this even with Lake City 12.7 M33 ball rounds.

It may also be that this was before vista bought the Remington plant ,or was it perhaps during the transition?

I bought a few boxes, I can't remember what caliber but it was after the bankruptcy and after they split the Remington Company up. But When I opened the box it was all mismatched shitty looking brass that looks like leftover crap they swept off the old warehouse floors. I'll see if I can find it and post up some pictures.

I was getting ready to buy a few boxes of 22-250 awhile ago. I opened the box to inspect them, the bullets had smashed the necks and crushed down the shoulders on several rounds in the boxes. This wasn`t the first time i`ve seen or heard of junk ammo from remington. I have no idea how they ever stayed in business as long as they did for any amount of time with the type of quality they had. I stopped buying anything that remington had their mits on, and i will continue to never buy anything with the remington name on it no matter who owns the brand, or when they owned it.

I won't waste my money of Remington ammo. Years ago, I had boxes of Remington core-lok for hunting. Out of a box of 20, 3- 5 rounds had bad primers/would not detonate. Same thing would happen in different calibers (of Remington ammo) that I shot.
The gun worked fine when I used Winchester, Hornady, PPU or Armscor ammo in it. I stopped buying Remington ammo.

Factory annealing failure, over time the hard brass cracked and minor splits showed up, no biggie if fired in a single shot, but the recoil of the firing good rounds moved the gun back and the loose bullets stayed where they were resulting in an overlength cartridge and jamming. Remington should make good on that box and any others that you have left. If you don't want to shoot them sell them as RELOADING COMPONENTS, NOT FOR SHOOTING. I don't think there would be a problem shooting them, but I'm sure a lot of dead people thought that too, just before they died!

I don't know if this is the case, more of a PSA but the Chinese are copying many of the least likely things, now I realize there are are sorts of requirements and restrictions on legally importing ammunition, however there are plenty of other seemingly inane things coming in every day, sold in Bulk from seemingly reputable Companies that are cheap knock-offs....I bought Motorcraft (Ford OEM) Spark plugs from Advance Auto: FAKE, re-ordered and got Originals that were obviously different and worked properly.
Back to the cartridge issue: improper annealing, Chemicals, and age-hardened Brass will cause failures...See what Remington says, mention you have multiple Boxes; they may know of issues.
Someone above mentioned LC .50BMG Brass being bad: I had about 2K of Processed and reloaded 5.56 that would blow out a the base; turns out it was a known problem with LC (85-86?) Cases failing...Pulled all that shit down and sent the Brass to the shredder.

As far as the LC brass for the ball 12.7 round
I found PMC Bronze to superior in every aspect.
