Rensselaer County Telling Cuomo How It Is

Wish I could link the Rensselaer county daily news conference but for whatever reason, I can’t.
Anyhow, our county has 54 documented cases of COV-19 out of a total of 150,000 people. For anyone who doesn’t know, we are directly across the Hudson from Albany. Anyways, just watched our county executive Steve McLaughlin give his daily briefing and that he is mandating that anyone coming up from downstate must quarantine for 14 days or whatever. He goes on to say that this is just common sense because our small county can’t handle the influx of positive cases this could bring from downstate. He continues to say he doesn’t understand why Cuomo is against the county’s mandate and against a travel ban to upstate counties because he’s pandering to his voters down there. I cannot stand the politics and politicians in this state but I really do believe that I couldn’t be in a better county as far as being a Republican goes. Gives me just a minuscule shimmer of hope.

Even if the doctors are not 100% right we need to give them time to figure this out.

Right. They were interviewing an Italian doctor on NPR today who suggested that cramming all those families into close quarters led them to infecting each other at a higher rate than it might have had they not or perhaps had they been more stringent about who sheltered where.

I am not propagating the idea that it isn't a good idea to avoid others, just pointing out some places have a couple people in a dwelling and others have half a dozen, a dozen, etc.

Right. They were interviewing an Italian doctor on NPR today who suggested that cramming all those families into close quarters led them to infecting each other at a higher rate than it might have had they not or perhaps had they been more stringent about who sheltered where.

I am not propagating the idea that it isn't a good idea to avoid others, just pointing out some places have a couple people in a dwelling and others have half a dozen, a dozen, etc.

It is a bit more complicated because of the long incubation so one way or another families might be exposed and until the 3 first weeks of isolation you don't really start to see how many people might be already exposed because those 2 to 3 first weeks are when you start to grasp how many people might be at risk and avoid the acceleration of spread, but this mean by then everyone is following the rules of isolation from each other, so while the plans are not perfect they are better than continue contact like with the case of patient 31 in south korea.
In the USA we have chosen to be 2 months late like idiots and people are still either uninformed or doing as they please.
So then lets not be surprised when we jump exponentially to a potential worse case of 150M or more infections.
this will mean we have to decide that we either expose everyone to achieve herd immunity and risk killing hundreds of thousands if not millions and deny medical access because we will not have it or then we shelter for what yet another 3, 6, 9, 12 weeks with no end in sight and collapsing the entire system. This is a lot more serious than what the politicians are saying. By being lazy we are doing more harm.

we need to stay put and give the doctors time to figure it out. By doing what we want we are only making things worse, and if it turns out, we are not, then great that would be awesome news but the other alternative is the scary one.

Evading risk is the best way to avoid injury. It is one of the main natural laws of evolution before any written laws or anything man made.

In a pandemic isolation and quarentine are the equivalent to a gazelle running away from a predator.

It's only going to get worse for upstate. In addition to letting the trash from NYC go wherever they want governor asshole is sending sick patients to upstate hospitals. As far as I know they haven't admitted which "upstate hospitals" have them. Could be Westchester county or it could be all the way up to Washington county. Either way when you add that extra burden to a small hospital that's already dealing with this shit it basically boils down to we're fucked.

There is a bunch more shit we could be doing. Home Depot is packed like fucking sardines. I drove by it yesterday at lunch time. Looks like 9 am on Memorial Day weekend. Everybody doing all the projects they want to do because they are at home.

Wegmans constantly packed now. People are not stocking up for a week at a time but just like meh let's do our daily wegmans trip.

This is all easily solved: Limit the number of people in a store at a given time. When people are waiting outside of wegmans for an hour in a lineup they'll figure out very quickly to buy 7+ days' of supplies at once.

So, every time i need to go get groceries I have to quarantine for 14 days, then again when I return home?

Why stop at the County line. Why not say "every time you take one step you have to stand there waiting for 14 days."

We have pictures all over, social media, fake news, spam and everything.
Entertainment, Marketing, Promoters, spammers, instigators, political influences, crooks, and everyone else are counting on that we take those
tiny bits of information and BS as truths. Their sensationalist disinformation machine runs on that premise.

IMO, the best thing is to pickup some independent news from around the world and start reading and forming a
somewhat objective criteria. The type of thing that investigative reporters should be doing and should be tough and
nurtured in high-school.

Like it or not we’re being programmed to listen to the elite media and our overlords to dramatically alter our lives for weeks (potentially months at a time) while anything of value we have deteriorates.
