Repo man shot at in Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE - A man attempting to repossess a car was shot at early Thursday morning in Poughkeepsie. Police have arrested a suspect and recovered a gun.

If it's got a lien by a bank, it's not yours the second you are not agreeing to the terms (ie: not paying/delinquency, etc).Try to steal my property while in my driveway and things may turn out similar.

If the bank gets a repo company to repo the vehicle, the bank is paying the repo company good money to go and tow it so they can get their asset back. It's called Asset Recovery. Large financial institutions have a separate department that deals with this.
Shooting a repo guy because he's doing his job is no different than walking into a store and shooting up the clerk behind the counter. On your property or not.
When I was helping doing repos and doing skips and helping not damage assets was dangerous work. I only did it for one summer. I was very impartial on it, sometimes feeling bad, but you gotta put that aside. After doing it just for a few months, I learned why you pay your bills on time along a multitude of other "things".
Same goes for handicap cheaters..... I don't feel bad for those that get towed! I hate seeing a disabled vet using crutches not being able to use a handicap space because of a cheater!
Reposession like that should not be an industry. In truth, the property does not belong to you until it is fully paid for. Once you violate the payment agreement and with the concurrence of local law enforcement, the repo-men can and will take it. Now, if the property is NOT VISIBLE from the road or common areas, then there might be a case for illegal search and seizure of private property since a search warrant was not obtained prior. There are several examples where the repo-men knew where the car was but if they had to break into your *closed* garage or access property not visible from a common area such as sidewalks or roadways, then bad things *could* happen.

The only thing for repo men to do should be to show up at an agreed upon meeting to take possession.
Maybe it would just refer to the cheap ass lawyers who file all the paperwork.then "repo man" would be a gone profession and then just be called a tow truck service ... as it should![]()
