Researching Move to South Carolina, how do I move my guns?

My wife and I are planning to move to South Carolina within the next year. When the time comes, how do I go about moving my guns? We may rent prior to purchasing a home. I understand that I cannot carry without a permit and I must either be a resident or own land to apply for a carry permit. Can I still posses guns, rifles and pistols in an apartment or on my land?

There is no paperwork required just to possess guns in free America. Only to carry them to various degrees.
