Resizing options for 243 win and 270 win

To the more elder reloading guru's out there.

Is there any resizing options for 243 and 270 win? It looks as if 243 win can be resized to 308 win but I'm not 100% sure. For the 270 win I'm completely at a loss. I picked up like 20 of each at the range and the only reason I picked them up was because the brass looked to be in excellent condition; most likely first fired.

The .243 Winchester's parent cartridge is the .308 Win. Therefore, the .243 cartridge can be formed from a .308 cartridge by necking down and trimming. I dont think it would work trying to go the other way. The neck would be too thin and would split. Necking up that much ( +/- .060" ) is a big leap.

The .270 Winchester's parent cartridge is the .30-06. You could probably neck down a .270 case and turn it into a .25-06 Rem case without too much trouble, although I've never tried it. I have necked down .30-06 cases, turning them into .25-06, but never tried it from a .270 case.

It's always easier to neck a case down than to neck it up. You can trim away excess brass in the neck. Adding brass becomes a problem.

Give it a shot. Make sure to lube inside the neck well.

Or save it and buy new rifles!!!

Ok, one last option for you... the .243 Win cases can be cut down and then the inside of the case can be turned and you will wind up with fresh brass for your .44 Automag ! If you have a .44 Automag, you already knew this. If you have the $$$$ to buy a .44 Automag, I'll be happy to send you the details on how much to cut off and how deep to set your inside turning cutter. If you don't have the $$$ to buy a .44 Automag, don't feel too bad.....they're not bank account friendly.


In full disclosure, I did in fact own one for a few years. It was an awesome handgun in terms of power and quality. It had it's little idiosyncracies, but all things do. Most of the Automags ever made needed to be loaded at or near maximim load in order to function reliably, and they needed to be kept clean.

i have a 270 win and will take all the 30-06 brass u got .. it can be neck downed for 270 win with just a pull in the press ..

not up on the 243 brass knowledge yet .. my friends wife has a 243 .. i bought her reloadin dies for it .. 4 die set .. for Christmas a yrs or so ago .
just her gun so she can just neck size it for her brass now ..
