Right now that is the case with the CCIA. (Also, excluding LEO).

A few months ago before the CCIA was implemented, there was a lot more "legal" guns on the streets. With the swipe of a pen. In fact, you or I, even though we got our guns via all of the legal ways and means, would then turn into a criminal just by going to a venue where there is no CCW Allowed sign posted, thus making our guns technically "illegal".

It should be the other way around, but with more legal guns on the streets... but in NY Shitty that'll never happen in our lifetimes.

While I believe this is a true glimpse into our future, I think this would be too cost prohibitive to be used on a large scale at the present time. I can see Big Brother deploying this technology in highly sensitive locations and for some big ticket events (New Year's Eve, Super Bowl, etc.), but it may have to go through a few iterations before it becomes cost-effective enough for municipalities to use.
I am curious as to how this technology adjusts for people with a limp or irregular gait. It seems that anyone with an ingrown toenail all the way up to an old back injury would trigger a search (not to mention anyone with a John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever strut).

actually, that's mostly in the northeast, and to some extent east of the Mississippi. Out west, no one really gives a shit.
Out here, if you're openly carrying a firearm, there is a reasonable assumption you're not going to be pulling it out and shooting everyone. That reasoning seems to be working for the last 100 years or so. And, more states seem to be adopting that attitude. And I find people in the south and west seem to be much more polite than people in the North and Northeast.
To be perfectly honest, I have not been to Maine yet. They do have constitutional carry, but I have not been to that state yet, maybe we'll go there this summer and find out,

It's hardly science fiction. 4th Amendment issues aside, it's a matter of scaling this up and paying for it.

and that's another reason we left New Yorkistan. This is just another unnecessary waste of money. And it tells you what your rulers think of you, the Law abiding citizen.
Do you honestly think this will work in any constitutional carry state? Out here people open carry all the time, Hell, I do it every chance I get, just for the sure pleasure of open carrying. ie: We were at KOFA NWR, we went for a hike in the mountains to the Palm Canyon area, I wore my Glock, mainly in case of a rattlesnake or a stray coyote, and we came across some other hikers. Of course everyone had to stop and say "hi" to Einstein. Everyone saw my gun, and not one person even batted an eye. We had a nice conversation, talked about the trail, were we all are from, and we went our separate ways. No big deal at all

NYPD has Xray Vans that indiscriminately scan pedestrians that pass by on the sidewalk. Have had them for years! Illegal search but they don't care and don't disclose anything about it either, including the safety of the xray beam, etc.
