The Carbine II class focused on using your carbine rifle with an emphasis on self-defense use incorporating plenty of movement and barrier work. We ran through a bunch of drills involving movement and firing on the move. Some changes in stance were also involved during the movement drills and you were forced to work reloads and deal with any malfunctions ( or hot brass down the shirt from shooters on your left - good job on safely handling the rifle while creating some pretty slick dance steps... lol ). We got a chance to practice things like dropping to prone, taking making shots to chest area , then advancing to the next position and firing from the knee and finally moving up and delivering two head shots from strong side and then transition your rifle to your support side for two more head shots. We actually practiced quite a bit of rifle transitioning from one side to the other and incorporated the barriers into this after lunch and how to change stances to limit exposure while doing your work. The barrier work also involved some teams and focused on safely moving from barrier to barrier with your team mate and working with the other teams on the field as you advanced onto their position to replace them. The ultimate goal of these drills was to get the students thinking about using those walls doorways and other cover/concealment points in their homes, working the angles with minimal exposure and thinking about what it may mean to protect an area of your home with an armed family member. Plenty of take aways on how to bring that training home and practice and come up with a plan.
It was a great group of students with all having taken previous Carbine I/skill builder classes. Ben was able to run us through quite a full day of training and I think everyone really felt satisfied at the end of the day. I really would recommend any of Ben's classes, especially if the only type of shooting you typically get to practice is static target practice. Taking a class like Ben's Carbine I, II or skill builder offerings will expose you to all those things you CAN NOT practice in a live-fire setting due to range rules against such activities. Doing so with a great instructor, under safe conditions but with an atmosphere that elevates your training time well beyond just shooting at some targets from a firing line.
Cheers and sign up for a class with Ben and @OnSight Firearms Training - I guarantee you'll have a good time and come away with plenty of experience and knowledge you can't get training from a seat..
