I picked up my first revolver a couple of years ago (ruger GP100 in .357). I love taking it to the range, and it has quickly become a family favorite. My wife prefers shooting it over my glock 19 or colt .45.
I will definitely consider another one in the future.
.380 acp is ballistically similar to .38 special and .38 special +P. I can't imagine its that much easier to shoot, since .38 special already has a very tame recoil.
I can see why a lot of people are drawn to the .380 compact semi-auto. Cheap ammo, low recoil, semi-auto's are very reliable nowadays. In the grand scheme of things I don't a true compact .380 has much of an advantage over a .38 special revolver...1, maybe 2 extra shots compared to the average compact revolver.
The big advantage for a CCW revolver is that you can get one chambered in .357 magnum, which gives you a lot more flexibility in regards to ammo (.38 special, .38 special +P, .357 magnum).
And for hunting, tracking and general outdoor use, the big magnum revolvers still have a definitive advantage over the semi-auto's. Revolvers aren't going away anytime soon; it's just that outside of recreational use/ownership, their relevance is restricted to very specific segments of the gun-owning community.
