Rifle Rack Ideas

Ive got a small office in my basement that has about 6 feet of open wall space that I would like to hang as many rifles on as I can.

I'm thinking of either a more traditional vertical arrangement like in the picture below, or hanging them horizontally on wood pegs, similar to the other pic.

I'd like to be able to see them better while they're hanging, which has me leaning toward the horizontal arrangement. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear or see them. I'd like to go floor to ceiling to maximize the number of rifles I can fit.

Of course, you'll have to relocate the laundry room but I really dont see what the problem is with my lock solution above.

If you really need to you can use duct tape, too.

The door is going to have a mechanical push button combination lock.

I'd like to be able to look at and and fondle my meager rifle collection without having to unpack a metal cabinet.

I like the horizontal look better, but curious how many you intend to display. I think you'll get more horizontally than vertical if the idea is display.

If you're into western you can make some racks from used horseshoes. Cut one in half and tack weld to another. Paint and hang.



Can buy them in bulk pretty cheap (something like 50 for $50). Not my taste but just throwing it out there...

I like both but slightly prefer the horizontal look. With that being said, in the vertical rack I would like "cleats" or "slots" in the base for the butts to keep the rifles straight in the rack. For the horizontal, I would want the pegs to be tilted up at a slight angle like 10 degrees or so to keep the rifle from tilting out away from the wall.

I think I'm going to go with the horizontal arrangement with 3 vertical runners, with holes every inch or so that I can put pegs in. That way there will be plenty of adjustment so the rifles sit level. I'll be able to fit more with the muzzles alternating pointing left and right.

I dig that, was thinking you probably want some adjustability here for stock/barrel drop and optics. One of the things I hate about vertical storage on the rack I have is how everything leans/cants because of optics (I'd need to put in pegs to keep everything 90 to the floor but I want to do something like you're talking about sometime so havent modified storage).
