Rising unemployment pushes Hawaii to consider universal basic income

While it's been toyed with in various countries around the world, it's never been implemented in the U.S. (Alaska's "dividend" program is the closest thing to a UBI America has seen.)
But recently, Hawaii state representatives unanimously passed a bill to explore the possibility of introducing a UBI into the Hawaiian economy.

I think it's great with one stipulation: mandatory sterilization.

Seriously, solves so many problems that it's worth it. Especially if you give them free cable, free cigarettes, free corn syrup-based processed food... they'd never last more than 5-6 years.

Don't be confused. You are spot on except for one missing detail. In the USSR to receive your stipend and housing you had to work for it. It was the job of some to simply sit in front of a Museum or other facility to give directions or information. That is why they boasted zero unemployment.

I continue to be astonished this idea keeps being promoted. Only economic illiterates favor this. Apparently the govt has a secret money tree they can use to distribute money to people. For free! It's all so simple!
