Rochester Police admits wrongdoing after woman waits 90 min. for officers to respond

A Rochester woman said she was left waiting more than an hour for police to show up after she called 911 multiple times for help.

The caller, who is six months pregnant and does not want to be identified, said on August 9, she called for police around 10:30 p.m. to help her with a domestic incident at her apartment. She said the dispatcher told her they would arrive as soon as possible.

But it shows a reasonable argument to my “the police will protect us” anti-2A family members. One big emergency, all of the police resources will go to that emergency. There is no one to respond to yours until the police redeploy from that big emergency.

Also, the incomigg shift frequently gets caught up in the precinct with all of the ridiculous training BS that we have to do DAILY now due to various court orders and such. Plus, for us at least, the outgoing tour has to come in slightly early to download camera footage, label it, tag it, and “share” it to appropriate parties.

I always wondered, why can't they automate that process for the bodycam footage with automated downloads and tagging?
It is technology that has been around for well over 10 years, and can be 100% automated if a device can transmit data wirelessly or over USB. For example, if using a wired connection, then while charging, some automated scripting should run that automatically downloads any footage stored on the device, and with geo-tagging, footage can easily be subsequently tagged with any events that dispatch shows the officer responding to.

Similar actions can be done even on the lowest end smartphones if the content is geo tagged. e.g., running an app such as foldersync for android, and setting it to automatically backup your phone to your NAS every time you charge the device and are on the home network. Then if your lightroom or other organizing and editing library also monitors the NAS, you will see footage come in as your device charges, and be tagged with the locations they were taken in. If that was paired with additional automation, e.g., to automatically correlate locations with job locations, the tagging becomes even more detailed.

The city police don't care about grand theft auto's and won't bother to show up for a police report. Economics? Scale? I don’t really know. Down here, between politics, money and sheer volume, I’m surprised we even have a system as efficient as the one we have.

Another factor is the rules and laws surrounding the handling of evidence, chain of custody so to speak. Even though it is digital files, it matters. I was told that any time I view a subordinate’s videos, my log in leaves a signature so that higher ups and DA’s can see everyone who has viewed that video.

The docking/charging station is the download port as well. We have a rapid download station for serious incidents and the normal docks for end of shift if there’s nothing immediately important recorded that tour.

there were no more ER Taxi's available in Livingston and were trying to get some from Monroe ..
