These people just hear something with gun in it and they want to write something up.
I say good shoot, the guy was outnumbered and one of the suspects was armed. He was in fear for his life and he did what he had to do.

I agree. Unfortunately for the gentleman who lawfully defended himself, this happened in NY. Now, paying for his defense counsel in both the criminal proceedings, and then the civil proceedings (because you know, the scumbag who tried to rob him was always a good church going boy and the victim didn’t need to shoot him) is probably going to bankrupt the guy.

This was one of the more surprising things I learned when I purchased my first gun a few years ago. If you are involved in a clear cut justifiable use of your gun you can still face legal hell depending on the location - the govt could pursue criminal proceedings based on the bias of the DA. And even if they didn't you weren't out of the woods because a lot of victims or their families sue. That makes situational awareness just as, if not more important, than being able to defend yourself. If you can avoid a situation, do so.
When people carry that little 5 or 6 shot pocket gun.

He has to remove the phrases "the fact is it's incredibly rare", "it's very very unlikely", and "you probably won't need" from his videos. It is bullshit and that mindset interferes with our effectiveness to maintain a high degree of situational awareness and reaction to a real threat. It is a fact that our cognitive brain is wired to process and recognize "what we are aware of" and those false notions can actually interfere with a person's ability to recognize danger or risk. Besides, I have learned from personal experience that "it is NOT incredibly rare", "it is more likely than you have been led to believe", and " unfortunately you may need".

I never said he committed a crime. You need to remember that this is NY. Gun owners are guilty until proven innocent. At minimum, I guarantee the DA will present this to the Grand Jury and this guy will have to hire an attorney.

why would he need defense for criminal proceedings if he isnt charged with a crime?
