I'm going to be just a bit serious now, in that I have a genuine belief that some of the most loved characters in our culture are evil people that reform.

Jesus's parable "The Prodigal Son" tells the tale of a Father with two sons. One leaves and leads a life of debauchery. The other stays with him and works. At long lost the bad son comes home and reforms. And HE becomes the father's favorite.

2000 years later Dickens invents Scrooge. Another evil man turned good. A very popular tale.

Now neither example involves a Mass Murderer, of course. And both are fictional (not Jesus - just his story - probably). But I do believe the phenomena holds true.
