A few years back at the Rochester gun show a guy had LOTs of cheap/broken guns for somewhere around $35 apiece or 5 for a $100. DAMN that could've been a money making opportunity.

I wonder how hard it would be to convince them you're turning in an 'assault weapon' if you have a garbage, wood stocked, semi-auto .22 with a detachable magazine, that you ran a die over the end of the barrel to thread it. According to the law, that's an assault weapon.

Maybe the gov REALLY did own them first. Look at this line from an article about a buyback in CT.

what happened to the guns ?
where are the guns now ?
proof the guns were destroyed ?
what guns from the buy back are in someone else's possession now ( buy back personal collection ) ?
were any of the guns used in a crime ?

I'm not sure how these have to be requested, or how the returned info is presented, but I'm in for at least $50.

ETA: 2 minutes of research concludes my initial suspicion - useful FOIA information is basically unobtanium. The request has to be very detailed and specific, and .gov has (9) exemptions and (3) exclusions in the law they can use to deny your request or return zero results.

im not sure how its done either .. but this would be a state / county FOIA .. not a FED ..

i also was thinking what actual LAW gives them the ok to BUY BACK a gun ? i can see if you find a gun and turn it to LEO .. no money changes hands there .. .. so there technically BUYing a gun with out doing a 4473 ..
