Before 1934 - anyone could buy that crap at a local pharmacy, along with cocaine, morphine, heroin, etc. No prescription, no age limit restrictions, and when I go back and read history pre-1934, I have never come across an article lamenting America's huge drug problem . The anti-drug laws were almost wholly imposed because of the influences of William Randolph Hearst, noted publishing mogul. His personal prejudices were towards / against blacks & Hispanics, who were known to be users of that killer weed - mari=joo=Hannah! Perhaps Mr. Hearst saw the money that prohibition made possible for bootleggers, and decided to wisely augment his personal fortune with a hand in 'illicit drug profiteering'? or maybe it was just his hatred for minorities. -- Who can really say? Just sumpin' to think on.
