Ruger 10/22 Takedown build

Well, I finally bit the bullet and decided to get a plinking gun so I'm not breaking the bank on ammo (but I broke it anyway on upgrades for the 10/22).

I'll post pictures as I receive stuff in the mail which should be over the next two weeks.

Here is the rifle itself, got it for $405

After all of the upgrades are done I want to find a place who can cerokote my stock in a black urban digital camo for me. I found one place out on Long Island but he wants $300; sounds steep.

Nice kit! I have a 10/22 Takedown w/ Backpacker stock also, plain black.. threw in a Ruger BX trigger, some internal upgrades (extended magazine release, auto-bolt release, few other goodies I can't recall off-hand). I have a Bushnell TRS-25 on it currently but have been thinking of replacing it, but it works fine. Haven't really pushed the range.

That Cerakoting does sound expensive.. maybe rattlecan it?

Not sure or why you would want to. It defeats the whole purpose of making it a backpack / bug out pack gun.

Got some stuff in the mail today. Just waiting on my stock, optics and picatinny rail.



I was really shocked how was it was to change the firing pin, extractor/spring and the charging handle. I wish all guns were so easy to work on.

The Volquartsen TG2000 trigger group has such a light pull and a crisp break. The extended mag release is nice also, It was definitely worth the money.

Sweet build! I love that platform. I polished up the trigger myself for a much nicer pull, but my other mods have been minimal. I got a new charging handle and the Volquartsen bolt tune-up kit, but those few bucks was enough to tighten up a rough-and-ready little rifle into something a cleaner and more reliable. Now you've passed on the itch to me to get that Magpul backpacker stock I've always wanted, but never prioritized. The auto bolt release sounds like a nice upgrade too.

Here she is all finished, Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock, Vortex cantilever scope mount and Vortex Crossfire-II 3-9 x 40mm scope.

Just have to decide if I want to drop $350 on the cerokote or rattlecan it.

Another quick and easy modification for that rifle would be the firing pin/roll pin mod. Had an occasional FTFire on mine and this mod did the trick. %100 reliable now. I beleive its a 3/32" roll pin tapped down vertically to remove the sloppy factory free play on the firing pin.
Just make sure the firing pin moves freely with just a hair of play .

Seems a waste to have such a big scope on a takedown rifle. Maybe if you had some sort of quick-disconnect that would hold zero? Probably be too much $$$

I had never heard of that firing pin mod, and I can't say I've had issues with most ammo. You're never going to have 100% fire rate with cheap .22 ammo..
