Oh! Another contender for my tax return dollars, to rival the Gunsite Scout and a few other similar bolt guns!
I have the ranch compact in 5.56 and like it a lot. My dedicated night time predator gun. Not a big fan of the plastic mags but this steps it up with the ability to use metal mags in this caliber.
Hmmm more things I need to buy?

I would have bought one had they been using the mini14 mags or better yet AR mags. I'm glad I didn't buy one yet because unless Ruger makes a retro fit kit for the Ranch so it can take mini14 mags, I think you'll have a lot of pissed of owners.
I do like that the mags are flush fit but damn Ruger why so flimsy??

why why only 5 shots on a bolt ,, same with my Axis ... wtf ... i would like 15 rnds , that's 5 trips to the target when sighting in without reloading the dang mag .... 45 bucks for a mini 10 rnd or 5 round .. WTH 45 bucks Ruger they should be gold plated for that cost ..
If this took AK mags I'd consider one.

I'm sure a retrofit would require a bit of creative machinist work, along with inletting the stock appropriately to fit. Hmm business opportunity. I personally would love to see more bolt guns setup for magazine compatibility with popular automatic platforms. A 5.56 or .308 bolt gun that can share AR mags, or a 7.62x39 that can share AK mags, for example.
Mossberg MVP series 5.56 and 7.62x 51. Also bottom metal for AR 15 mag use in the R700 is available from pacific tool and gage.
You need to bump that caliber up.

So this allows it to accept all AR mags or only certain types of box magazine?
AICS compatable mags doubt it works with AR mags. If they come out with one that takes AR mags, I may modify my 300 BLK with it just for S&Gs.
