Ruger American Ranch

I have been intrigued by getting one for a while. Simply for target shooting. I already have 2 AR's, a pump shotgun and 2 10/22's. most of my shooting is 100 yards max although I want to try farther if I find a place.

It's too easy to burn through rounds with an AR. Am I wasting my money since I already have the 2 rifles?

Thoughts on the Ruger?

I've been eyeing the American Ranch myself. I really like the design of the rifle save the magazine. I think its a good idea to have a bolt gun that fires 5.56/223. The only thing I wish Ruger had done, was design it to accept AR mags. As much as I like the Ruger, because of this issue, I am starting to lean towards the Mossberg MVP patrol which takes AR mags.

I wish I could figure out how to change the title from Tiger to Ruger, but I also considered the MVP for similar reasons, but the Ranch keeps calling my name.

I hear you. The Ruger is a better looking rifle. It's also slightly less expensive. I just wish they were less proprietary with their mags. It would also make the mini14 a whole lot more alluring. Who knows, maybe someone will fabricate an adapter to allow for the American Ranch to accept AR mags.

I got the compact version and love it. Wish the magazine was a little more robust ..even if it had metal feed lips. Good affordable gun. Using it as a predator gun when I can find the time to go out again.

Indeed, but the price tag on the Scout is pretty steep IMO.

The idea for the proprietary mag was to not imping on Ruger Gunsite rifle business and also cover just more than 223 and 308 calibers. What I found out this week was Ruger also chambered this rifle for 450 bushmaster and made about 1200 rifles for Michigan as Rifles with straight cases are allowed in shotgun only zones now. The proprietary mag only holds three rounds and this is enough for hunting. One Michigan gun shop made a range video and it shot very well for 100, 200 and 300 yards with some scope elevation adjustment.
